It wasn’t at the start, but was added in shortly after.

Pure Imagination was the 'climax' of the London production, used when the riding Great Glass Elevator. I think the producers made the right decision in London to deviate from the film rater than complete a more honorary piece and risk ending up with something like Back to the future. The Broadway production team went back a little too far imo bringing into too many elements from the film.

:/ Nobody complained about the kids being played by kids in the movie(s) or London production... Whether it's for some sort of thematic reasoning or logistics, it's just annoying. Hard to see Veruca Salt as a spoilt little brat when she's 30 odd. More like a midlife crisis if you ask me. If it's adults playing kids and with the inclusion of songs from the movie, sounds like it might more closely resemble the "highly successful" (words from the Playhouse site, not mine) Broadway production.

I suspect the Broadway production is what is being licensed rather than the original London production. Adults as kids can work, The Ocean at the End of the Lane comes to mind. The Broadway production team went back a little too far imo bringing into too many elements from the film. I always saw the original production as an adaptation of the book rather than a hybrid of both the book and the films similar to Mary Poppins.

Is there any link to the recent Paris production? I saw it last weekend and it closed early this weekend. I loved it! much simpler than what I remember at Drury Lane (screen at the back and projections used). It did have children in the child roles, though with all the Covid delays a bit older than expected!

Are shows that go to non-London venues likely to get transfers? Deliberating taking the trip to Leeds or waiting

Had started to flap when I realised the US tour has now closed and there's a whole set sat in storage that could be shipped over... but there is a new Set & Costume Designer credits on the Playhouse website for this, so that's relieved a few anxieties.

You have no Charlie and the Chocolate Factory without The Candy-Man and Pure Imagination, what were thy thinking in London by dropping those iconic songs. They didn't originally get the rights I don't think. Which is why Shaiman and Whitman were bought in to write a new score. Not true. The production didn’t want to use them originally as they wanted to separate themselves from the film version. Not a hugely smart move in retrospect.

Pure Imagination was in the original London production, they added Candy Man and I Got a Golden Ticket to the Broadway production.

Been looking at tickets for Edinburgh Playhouse. The side stalls seats that are sold as restricted view are on being sold for £56. £56! Ridiculous.

Yes, price wise at my local it's comparable to the lion king and my fair lady tours. It seems overpriced for a Leeds Playhouse production, I can't imagine it's going to be a tour on par with Disney production wise.

Maybe a fraction too early with 4 months to go til it opens in Leeds, but any hints, rumours or speculation around casting etc?
Pricing seems pretty steep on ATG for next years tour and seats not selling as fast as I'd expected, early days yet but could well be some dynamic bargains to be had closer to the time.

It's a Leeds Playhouse production...it's hardly going to be extravagant - their tour of Chitty shows that.

It's quite a poor musical anyway - I remember seeing it and just being really disappointed with the direction they'd taken it in.
Unless the supporting cast has also got some great theatre names in, I won't be making a return visit.

Happy with this. Gareth Snook is great casting for a great part in a great show. Looking forward to seeing it.
