The tour wasn’t selling well enough.I have been saying for ages that people in general are being more careful with their spending.Got a fab deal on two weeks in Gran Canaria earlier this year and my booking agent, who I have booked with for nearly twenty years, says this is the worst it has ever been in his memory for holiday bookings.Another 1700 jobs about to go at Fords’ carmakers, the high street in tatters and all the worry about Brexit! The Spice Girls tour a complete sell-out?Utter rubbish! Regional tours like Hair,Amelie,Little Miss Sunshine are hanging on by a thread.Bernadette Peters had no chance in my opinion.Curtains will struggle,I fear.Saw the movie Aladdin last week and there were 6 other people in the audience...6!! People will go for sure-fire hits rather than ‘chance it’.Sorry to sound like the Grim Reaper but when the purse-strings are tight, entertainment/leisure is the first to suffer.

So how do we get refunded? Automatic if you bought the ticket online, if not you must contact the seller.

All true but this pulling of shows is a bit of a running theme for Speckulation.

I've just had a look at Companies House, and Speckulation's latest accounts are now over two months late. Presumably because of that, there was an application on 4 June to strike the company off the register, but it was withdrawn on 5 June.

Just had a text and an email from ATG confirming the news from 24 hours ago and promising full refund within seven days. I was about to come here squawking about how bad the communication at ATG was but I'll have to shelve that now
I wonder how they will be if next time I book with them I offer full payment in 7 days

You make very good points EXCEPT, The Spice Girls tour was virtually a sell out.
Their promoters said in an interview this week that 95% of all available tickets were sold in the first weekend they went on sale.

Do you think Bernadette still gets paid, or recompensed in some way given that she could have turned down other work to do the tour?

distant cousin, you are correct about the initial sales being big even though often promoters tell porkies to inflate interest, but on the re-sale market it has been a disaster. For example my two tickets for Coventry had a face value of £130 each but we got them for £60 each and other friends of mine got the same deal.Someone got their fingers burned! Never had so many comps or deals offered to me in the last 20 years as I have had in the last year or so.I totally agree with the Monkeys comments posted earlier. Also Burly’s comments about BP’s promoters are spot on! Buyer beware with this promoter and what a crying shame for all BP fans and for the great lady herself.

Notification just popped up on my phone from Today Tix asking me if I wanted Bernadette Peters tickets. When you click on it get message saying not available. Someone made a bobo.

I think Bernadette Peters would have sold better restricted to only one or two nights in mid-sized venues, probably. Yes, I can't say I am surprised the tour was pulled. I am disappointed as I was going , but it was just too ambitious for a UK audience who would not have a clue who she is. I remember it not selling out when we saw her last time in Manchester. Oh well I do have the Woman to Woman concert on the Saturday .

I've looked at twickets (official resellers) and viagogo and haven't seen anything less than face value....(I was thinking of upgrading my ticket for next week to the Spice Circle) - the Spice Circle £210 tickets haven't sold out in most cities and venues have been giving free upgrades to anyone they like the look of who has general admission pitch standing tickets (lucky beggars!)

theatreian, your comment about BP not being widely known makes a lot of sense.Sometimes I forget that as a MT fan,BP is as famous to me as David Beckham would be to the masses.Yet the masses would indeed say, “Bernadette Who?”,for the most part.

Five minutes ago,Stub had 600 tickets freely available for Edinburgh and Bristol.Seats at all prices on some London dates.Had to laugh at those odious parasites commonly known as touts who were failing miserably to shift masses of tickets outside the Coventry gigs this week.

To return to BP,I wonder if she is prepared to re-schedule with different promoters at some point?

This is such a shame for an artist of Bernadette Peters' calibre, but it's down to a producer who clearly knows nothing about business, marketing or - most importantly - his "product". Outside of a night in London, BP doesn't have a UK market. She means nothing to most people and to have even thought about booking her into the cities he did is just ridiculous. It's the same as Elaine Paige, who's done a couple of sell-out concerts in NY but outside of there she wouldn't have an audience. This is no disrespect to either of these great ladies, it's just fact. I'm sorry we don't get to see more of the great American musical theatre ladies in the UK (I've been waiting for years for Linda Eder!) but producers like this guy need to behave more responsibly. They do a great disservice to the artist, the fans and the venues.

Not surprised it has been pulled given ticket sales were poor but I am surprised that Bernadette and her management were working with a proven dodgy producer who pulled Wonderland a couple of years back.

And missing out that Aladdin has been massive at the BO.

Sadly the concert is still almost identical today LOL, except that she has added her work in Follies, some of Dolly! And she doesn't perform Rose's Turn.

Does anyone remember the film "E' Lollipop" or, as it was released in the US with the title "Forever Young, Forever Free". I believe it was released in 1976. It was a beautiful little film that really touched your heartstrings. I'm pretty sure I have the Original Soundtrack LP stashed away somewhere. Bernadette Peters sang the title song on that LP and today I stumbled across it on Youtube and it immediately brought back all those feelings of watching the movie so many years ago. Do any of you remember it?
