WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT
to help secure our future...
Southwark Playhouse is a community theatre venue firmly committed to showcasing work by new and emerging theatre companies and practitioners; as well as offering a range of participation opportunities for all members of its local community throughout the year.
We've battled over the past 30 years to find a secure home so we can finally, firmly, plant our roots in this glorious borough of Southwark. And it appears, like buses, you wait 30 years for one theatre, and two come at once!
As well as a new theatre at the Elephant and Castle (opening next year - covid allowing), developer CIT have invited us to be part of their development at London Bridge.
We've been offered a lease on a proposed new theatre building, which forms part of a larger office development, built on the site where Colechurch House currently stands, just at the foot of London Bridge. You can read more about the development here.
We've grown signiifcantly over the years since we were established and we think this is a natural progression for the organisation. Essentially, we are moving from a temporary theatre building, that holds two theatre spaces and a rehearsal space, to two, long-term and affordable, buildings that will offer three theatre spaces, a rehearsal space and a dedicated youth and community space. Read more about our plans here.
All of this will only be possible if the development gets planning approval. The plans are in consultation and it would help us greatly if you could send a message to the Southwark planning department to let them know that you support the theatre's inclusion in the development. You can do so by clicking on the button below and submitting the form (It should only take you a couple of minutes or so).

Thanks so much for giving this your consideration and for your general support. We are very much looking forward to seeing you at Southwark Playhouse soon.
