In just 17 days, we will say goodbye to 2021 and hello to 2022. What are your hopes, predictions and plans for the year ahead?
I hope to go on a big holiday to somewhere like Australia or New Zealand once they reopen their borders, I've not been anywhere abroad since 2019 so this will essentially be two holidays combined into one, I'm also looking forward to the Elizabeth Line finally opening so I plan to take a journey during the first days of opening and I also look forward to the shows I have booked in 2022, Cock and To Kill a Mockingbird.

A month ago I would have said I was pretty hopeful of a more normal year in 2022, with no lockdowns and fewer restrictions, maybe a holiday. But the last week or so has made me feel like we're going backwards, with several theatre closures, lots of us back to working from home, and stricter rules. So, I don't know...at the moment I'd be happy to just go back to where we were a few weeks ago, and to be able to get to the 20 or so shows I've already booked for next year, carry on seeing friends and family face to face, going to restaurants, museums, a few weekends away in the UK.
If I could have one wish for the new year it would be that the NHS copes and gets back to being fully functioning, so that we all have that safety net if we need it.

If this year was the year of the vaccine, 2022 will be the year of the treatment which is why I’m hopeful that the combination of boosters and new treatments might see the restrictions and problems that plagued this year will be firmly left behind.

I have a trip to New York booked in April so hope that we are in another Covid Lull by then. Booked to see The Music Man (very excited) and may see another few shows but struggling to find anything new that I haven't seen/is unlikely to transfer over here. I did think perhaps Macbeth with Daniel Craig but alas it is VERY expensive.

Hopes: I'd love the Hytner/SRB John Gabriel Borkman to get a slot at the Bridge. I'd love Jez Butterworth to write a new play. I'd love the Barbican to host Ivo van Hove's Age of Rage and Simon McBurney's Michael Kohlhaas (from the Berlin Schaubuehne). Of Shakespeares I haven't seen for ages I'd love to see Titus Andronicus and Cymbeline. It's the 400th anniversary of Moliere's birth, so I'd be keen to see The Misanthrope in Tony Harrison's updated version of his version for the NT. I'd love the Sondheim show that was going to get put on in New York get put on.

I want to get back to the theatre - 21 months yesterday since I saw last show/concert/gig.

I'd like to be able to go out & about without being terrified of catching covid the entire time. Sadly it looks highly unlikely that that will happen.
