At long last, after 19 months, I returned to the theatre yesterday afternoon. It was all the more emotional after having to postpone my return from June (when the theatre reopened) due to illness. I have only just begun to regain my strength, and my trip to my local theatre (a 13 mile drive each way) was my biggest adventure in months.
The thrill and excitement of being back in the theatre again was amazing. The show was by the operatic society (but if you didn't know this beforehand, I'd expect you'd think you were seeing a West End cast as they are all so talented) performing songs from a variety of musicals. I may have cried on more than one occasion. I was emotional enough to start with finally being back in the theatre, so adding in some top showtunes, it didn't take much to set me off.
I was quite surprised that they also sang many songs I didn't know as I thought I was well up on showtunes, but I think I've missed some of the new shows to arrive, having not been down to London for a while even before the first lockdown. Google also told me some of the songs are from smaller Broadway shows that I don't think have made it over here yet, or not on a large scale anyway.
I finally feel things are starting to return to normal a bit for me, I really hope this is the start of me getting back to some sort of regular theatre-going again. I've missed it.
[Apologies if there is already a thread where people are discussing their returns to the theatre, I couldn't find one, feel free to move this post if so.]
