I actually liked this one 🤷🏼♂️. It was fun - saw it the Monday the week Broadway got shut down.

The Rocky Horror mention in the last paragraph is a little odd. Does the reviewer think The Rocky Horror Picture Show is known for being disastrously bad?
Definitely going to give this a go, anyway - it sounds unmissable, although not necessarily for the right reasons.

I tried it tonight, I just found it funny how they viewed the UK. I wouldn't watch it again though, the songs were just a weird trip. Strange and very cringe especially the paparazzi song (flash click or something like that) . I'm sure it'll probs sell quite well on Broadway though, with the American love for the royals |

The show opens with a conservation between Diana and Camilla yikes..
The 80s style dance number between Diana and Charles is the most WTF thing I've ever seen in a musical
Barbara Cartland?? What is she doing in this show..
The sexual innuendoes between Diana and James Hewitt. "I think you'd adore my horse"
Girlfriend in a feck-you dress
"In the old days we'd have cut off your head"
Her death was handled well, the other Diana musical did a 2 minute sound effect of a car crash.
On a positive note, I really liked the set and costumes. I thought it all worked wonderful and the lighting was stunning. I think some of the songs are growing on me, "Thrilla in Manilla with Camilla" is stuck in my head but those horrendous British accents do not help. |

People actually pay to see this on Broadway? Wow, standards have really dropped. “My son is on the telly, pouring out his heart While his wife is on the town, dressed up like a tart” Suddenly the lyrics in Cinderella seem sophisticated. |

The penultimate sentence of that review pre-empted my intentions: this is totally the sort of musical that calls for an alcohol-fuelled hate watch party, so I've organised one for next month. As such, I'm keeping mostly away from it and then, but the clips I've seen look as deliciously awful as I'd hoped (especially James Hewitt's entrance). From the bits I've seen/heard the lyrics and book are abysmal and can only have been written by Americans who did only superficial reading from Wikipedia (e.g. using Americanisms that no-one in the UK here would use throughout the show but interjecting the word "bloody" every other minute to make it "authentically" British; not to mention the nonsense idea that Diana was an out-of-her-depth oblivious commoner who didn't know anything about Royal etiquette or what she was getting herself into, or the whole premise of the song 'If'...how exactly can she be the Crown's "ambassador at large" if she is simultaneously leaving the Royal family?). The sad thing is that stuff like this gets preserved for posterity and then things that deserve to be captured on film for future generations to understand what all the fuss was about (Hal Prince's various shows, from Follies and Night Music to Phantom and Evita), the original Miz and Sunset...to name but a few) have never had any commercial release, and (most probably) never will. |

It is terrible, but in a "fun trash" way. The kind of things you enjoy for how bad they are when you're not entirely sober. But paying Broadway (or West End) prices for it? No f***ing way
