Thoughts, predictions, rumours & gossip on what next year is going to look like for UK Theatre.
It strikes me certainly in terms of the West End there isn't really a lot announced yet, will it be a quiet year for big new openings and transfers or are announcements just being held back?

I think there could be quite a lot of turnover next year. I don't think Tina, Mary Poppins, & Juliet and Back to the Future will see next year out, so that's four (five including Dominion) relatively large Musical houses would be in need of a new show at some point in 2022. Even just by looking at sales for some other shows like Matilda and Come From Away, advance sales aren't great so I guess it remains to be seen if they will last.
From discussions on the forum, it seems Beauty and the Beast will play a summer run at the Palladium, and My Fair Lady at the Coliseum. Hairspray seemingly going into the Dominion next year? From West End Live there's going to be a something announced this week, starring Ruthie Henshall.
Potential transfers? Mean Girls, for sure, will eventually arrive. I'm pretty sure I read that Ain't too Proud was in the pipeline before covid struck. Also keep hearing of Jagged Little Pill at Trafalgar. Shows like Beetlejuice/Anastasia could for sure have a West End run.
From the UK? Boy in the Dress was about to announce just as covid struck I believe. There was also due to be a run of Cilla with Sheridan Smith. Bedknobs and Broomsticks I have heard absolutely seeking a run in West End.
Then we still need to see/hope we get the proposed productions of Hello, Dolly! and Sunday in the Park with George.
