Hamlet, Ophelia, Polonius and the gravedigger were all great but let down by a production around them that felt very school play, Oxfam costumes that didn't in any way convey power, wealth or court and a really horrible set that managed to overpower the action while adding nothing to it. I am at the other end of the impressions spectrum regarding the overall feel of both plays - I enjoyed "Hamlet" much more than "Macbeth" and found it much more engaging - but oh do I agree on the horrible set, at times it really had the feel of a village production and the actors were not at all to blame for that. The costumes fit well with my "reading" of it (meant to be very political, drawing on Trump) so they made sense to me, but they were really a non-pretty sight, agreed. |

I came on the board in the interval to read thoughts and really tried to channel Trump in the second half but just couldn't do it, I felt like Claudius and Gertrude weren't really in it at all, happy for someone to try and change this.
Yeah the set didn't do much did it, I thought TF got stuck in a lot of unattractive head gear but otherwise the costumes were fine for me. Such a different stream to the Macbeth the night before and I rather appreciated being able to watch the whole stage. Though Ophelia was great, yes the whole family worked. I still haven't worked out the accent choice for Hamlet but found her very watchable. Did three streamings in three nights and couldn't have been more different but consider that a good thing.

I found watching this on a computer screen very underwhelming.
Not sure if it was the streaming experience or the production itself.
Maybe I’ve seen too many Hamlets now, but I just didn’t find anything very interesting about it.
