Rest In peace Sarah Harding. 39 is no age to pass away, a year after diagnosis.
Scary how someone that young can die from Breast Cancer, not even old enough to have a routine Mammogram

I do hope with the various vaccine technology that have been developed for Covid that we can use it to treat cancer as it's still a very difficult illness to deal with.

Cancer is not one disease so you can't adopt a single approach to beating it. It is a cruel and unpredictable set of diseases.

Sadly Sarah ignored her symptoms for a while as Covid hit and she just tried to cope with over the counter pain killers. It’s been a while since I read her book but I think she put it off for seven weeks before calling 111. I’ve been a huge Girls Aloud fan from the word go and this just so terribly sad. So much life left to live, so much left to achieve, and then having to spend your last year in and out of hospital in the midst of a pandemic... it’s just cruel. Seven weeks seems like a very long time to ignore symptoms if you're a lot of pain even during a pandemic.

This is atrocious news and I knew this year was going to be her last, as she said “she has seen her last Christmas.”
Bear with me on this one, this might seem inappropriately but it isn’t really. I saw her perform in Ghost in Wimbledon and her performance couldn’t be described as being great, however there was a moment in the show when she slipped out of character and looked across the audience completely lost, lonely, fragile and vulnerable, like a rabbit in the headlights - I realised then her performance wasn’t entirely her fault. My heart actually went out to her then, as it still does today.
Her performance left a lasting mark with me. I still carry that image of her looking across the audience and her being only a too young 39, has actually touched a very sensitive nerve with me.

I am somewhat surprised that this undoubtedly sad passing is the lead story on the BBC news website.
I guess people are craving non Covid/non Afghan stories. But this really isn't a major news story.
Sad for her family and friends. No question of that. But not a lead story.
Maybe I am heartless.

Sad for her family and friends. No question of that. But not a lead story. Maybe I am heartless. I think it is. She was a hugely recognisable person to an entire generation - I still remember that Popstars final and know all the words to Sound of the Underground. Girls Aloud captured the zeitgeist and changed pop music in a way. And she is a prime example of having struggles and trying to overcome them, all in the public eye. A role model to many in that sense. She is only a few years older than me, so it really hits home. But most importantly, and the very important reason why her death is headline news, is that she was bravely open and brutally honest about her cancer battle and how she ignored her symptoms until it was too late. I've seen more posts on social media today urging women to monitor for breast cancer symptoms than I ever had before. If that saves even one life, which it will, then that is absolutely deserving of being headline news. RIP Sarah, gone far too soon. Cancer is unspeakably cruel.

After Jade Goody died, the number of women getting smear tests increased dramatically. I somehow feel in the grand scheme of things, something like this has to happen every now and then to someone prominent, to remind the rest of us. Very sad indeed.

I just realised, I saw her in Ghost The Musical at Blackpool Opera House. And now she is one, and so is the man I saw it with.

Sad for her family and friends. No question of that. But not a lead story. Maybe I am heartless. It is a major story. She is a celebrity that died from a horrible disease. Cancer is one of the hardest diseases for people to recover from even if they do survive. I am very sorry for the family and hope the family have time to grieve. I hope to remind women to get breasts checked from a doctor for cancer. Please get them checked regularly from a doctor. There is no shame in worrying about your health . I guess people are craving non Covid/non Afghan stories. really that is your response.
