I'd probably not really know about all the tech stuff and just enjoy the show, as I did for what it is: a great ABBA specacle! I've read quite a bit about the technical stuff but in all honesty I don't understand it. Far too technical for me. I still believe I actually saw them on Saturday and that's what I'm telling everyone 😀

{Spoiler - click to view} I'm pretty sure the Abbatars are just part of the LED but much more bright and saturated than the rest of the dark content so they appear to stand out so much. See this which is a grab from a video I found on YouTube - the "flash" at the end of the first song - shows things pretty well ie it's all on screen. As another poster says they have gauze type things that drop and are projected onto - they are down when you first come into the auditorium and also drop for Waterloo and maybe other songs (can't remember) - but they tend to show more general imagery and are far less sharp (as you'd expect from projection) Perhaps the screen needs a break from the ultra high res it will be running in every few songs, or they need a break to load up the next set of movies - maybe the animations are running in lower res and/or because they don't feature the super bright Abbatars that may give the screen a chance to cool down / avoid Abbatar burn in?! Yeah the video I took looks very similar to that. I would say the centre stage screen with the Abbatars is the the extremely high rez one and then the 2 sides are less powerful. I chatted to my mate...he said the guy said the 'the Abbatar tech gets incredibly hot and needs breaks so it doesn't overheat'...and my friend thought it was all projected and therefore it was overheating projectors. So I guess the 'video's and lighting elements' are a lower rez and therefore don't work the screens as hard. As far as 'burn-in' goes, thats usually only happens with static images...ie if you pause something for too long it burns into the screen.

There are projection beams for each of the ‘tars’ that tail into the ceiling/lighting rig, not just one for a single projection. I don’t know if it is an effect that is meant to look like a follow spot, or the actual projection?

Not sure where we are at with spoiling so sticking this in to be safe… {Spoiler - click to view}This is all illusion. There is no stage, there is no lighting rig, there is no light on the ABBAtars and no projection (except for Waterloo, the cartoon as you enter and when they appear on the big circular screens over the audience). It’s all just a flat image drawn in perfect perspective on an enormous and very hi-res screen that is carefully matched at the edges so you don’t see the join to the real stage and real lighting rig that finishes just in front of where the fake one starts.

{Spoiler - click to view}Exactly - you are watching a very nice computer generated film which, like most computer generated films, costs a fortune to produce. And like any film (computer generated or not) your brain can process depth of field and perceive images in the foreground and background etc but in terms of delivery it is a flat screen (or maybe slightly curved at the edges). But the whole experience has been been put together very nicely, the actual content on screen is top notch, it is time coded with real lighting and other effects in the auditorium which match those in the film. The side screens are clever but again are just different renders of what you are seeing on the main screen all synced up. It's all happening so fast your brain just sees it as a live show!
The band actually have quite a tough gig I think presumably playing along to a click track.
But by having total control over the venue they (ABBA) can control every aspect and it's really really done well! All credit to everyone involved in this.
I suspect a deal has already been done for other locations (Las Vegas and maybe Middle East perhaps?) and it's just a case of that being announced at some point in the future. I think I read somewhere they have a 10 year deal on the site in London so I guess for here it's a question of how demand holds up. I imagine it will be popular with international tourists as they start to return, despite the slightly out of the way location, which would have been much cheaper than somewhere more central of course.

What’s the arena seating like? Comfy? Roomy?

What’s the arena seating like? Comfy? Roomy? 6’4” Dan was very comfy, but had 5’2” wife on one side and a lady that I thanked for being “pleasingly slight” when she sat down, on the other. It is all beautifully airy in the seating areas. The dance floor however looked, well, like a full dance floor.

What’s the arena seating like? Comfy? Roomy? Yes very comfy fold down chairs with armrests. Mind you most people were dancing rather than sitting in them

What’s the arena seating like? Comfy? Roomy? They're comfy, but if you're going get standing tickets. They're half the price and the experience is much better from there as the stage fills your entire eyeline and makes it so much more immersive.

Somebody ballsed up somewhere (in our block at least) as there were too many cup holders; so that some people had one either side. Add them all together and they could have had another 2 seats in every row. Times that by every row and its a lot of £$€. Of course it could have been on purpose just in case they were expecting every other person to buy 2 drinks 🙄

Or methodical Swedish planners realise that left and right handed people might have different preferences as to where they wish to put their drinks and gave them options. Nothing careless about this project I can assure you.

No, clearly not, and refreshing that they would put something as minor as that over profit.

Article on Dezeen magazine suggests that the ABBA theatre - designed to be demountable - will be 'relocated when the show ends in five years'. www.dezeen.com/2022/06/09/abba-arena-stufish-virtual-tour/That is clearly the length of planning permission they have got, rather than a suggestion that the show will run that long.

The site has been marked for social housing from late 2026, so they have the site until then at the latest.

We had an announcement on Monday night, but there wasn't one last night. Nowhere near as bad as a regular concert though, not by a long shot. I am going to Billie Eilish next week and am dreading it because I know it's going to be an endless ocean of tweens on their phones. Likewise!

After Abba, and now Queen & Lambo the other night I am convinced that it is the older generation that are obsessed with filming everything rather than the youth.

Q+AL on Wednesday was the worst camera behaviour I'd ever seen. 3rd row on the floor and couldn't see the stage for long periods due to the facetiming, selfies and constant filming.

Caitlin Moran in the Times compared Abba Voyage to the first time cinema audiences ever saw a steam train coming towards them on-screen. Hopefully not everyone stampedes to escape....

Woman in White didn't know what to do with the tech they had available. The main effect was queasy audience. Abba seem to have covered every possible problem before allowing an audience near the arena.
