I can't imagine any connection between The Other Palace production and the tour. The Other Palace sales took a bit of time to pick up with the new cast, but it's now doing well again.
They already have a separate set for the tour and this seems relatively easy to cast.
The bigger problem will be selling tickets for the tour. People were cautious about returning to the theatre when the last tour went out, so hopefully this one will be different. If nothing else, it's a relatively cheap and safe production to send on the road.

If this is the first tour stop. It starting after the last Other Palace extension could show signs of The Other Palace production closing?
But that's just speculation at this point.

there was a venue that only had 25% of the venue filled so this shall be interesting

Bord Gais is 2111 seats... beyond silly when the 1240 seat Olympia is right there... The Olympia is a pig of a load in, very limited in terms of rigging points, front of house more focused on refreshments than the show... okay, it's starting to sound like The Other Palace! Does have a cracking view from the backstage smoking area. I'd say the Gaiety would be the more sensible Dublin house, even if you do have to fight the council to get permission to tip your trucks somewhere in the same postcode, and even then you are bumping stuff over potholes behind a Disney store. |

Tour dates have been announced by ATG. Unfortunately looks like Bill has booked the big venues again rather than places the show will fit. Manchester Palace, Liverpool Empire, Glasgow Kings etc etc.
However - Edinburgh Playhouse isn't on there so I'm hoping they realised just how ridiculous the show looked there and have booked the Festival Theatre instead.

What a shame they're missing the opportunity to bring this to some smaller houses and parts of the country that haven't yet had this show. I'm not clear from the article I just read, is this in addition to the TOP production?

The announcement said there are further venues to be announced and there are quite a few gaps in the published schedule including three weeks in July so I would imagine there are more to come.

If it sold poorly on tour last time I don’t understand why they think it’s going to sell any better a second time. Filling TOP with superfans is very different from filling regional theatres. It feels like someone is desperate to make this “happen” across the U.K. when it’s actually a fairly niche musical with limited appeal.

Maybe you have to take ‘Heathers’ if you want ‘Blood Brothers’? Its the new (insert name of unwanted Jennie Seagrove starring play). Didn’t ‘Heathers’ go out right after lockdown? That must have taken a toll?

That goes both ways though doesn’t it
a) After over a year un lockdown punters were too scared to go out.
b) After over a year in lockdown punters will throw their £ at anything just to get out of the house.
oh, and
c) people looked at this and thought “what is it? do I fancy it? Nah”.

The Olympia has horrific sightline, I was there for Girl From The North Country and with all the pillars and the overhang a lot of people were complaining about the view. The Gaiety, as mentioned, suffers from the pillar problem but nowhere near as bad as The Olympia which if it wasn't for its historic significance, I'd want the entire interior gutted. Unless you're going for a concert, you're going to suffer in the seats. I saw this in the Bord Gáis on its last run around, I was at the Wednesday evening show. It was about 60% full, normally they close sections and move everyone down to the stalls or circle but they were obviously happen enough with the attendance to have the upper circle staffed. |

Interesting mix of venues. Liverpool Empire has about 2300 seats whereas Theatr Clwyd only has around 600. I think it must have struggled last time at the Empire as they were offering discounts, which they almost never seem to do.
I enjoyed it at the Haymarket last year, though wasn’t necessarily bothered about seeing it again, but can’t say no to front row at Theatr Clwyd for a tenner.

I think a few more tour venues have appeared on the website filling in some of the gaps. Peterbrough has filled in the gap after the opening week in Windsor. There may be more new venues.
