It sounds like a forced affirmative action. Either write truthful characters who happen to be gay, or don't, Disney.

Yet to find out what the sub-plot is, but if we were to read La Feu and Gaston's relationship at face value, I am bit turned off thinking that the fugly gay has a crush on the tapping asshole alpha male. To be fair to Gaston, there's no man in town half as manly. He's perfect, a pure paragon.

It seems like, with that character, it is gonna be more a discovering who he is in the story, rather than him knowing he is gay from the outset. Which I personally think will work well, as it could help younger people in coming to terms with themselves too? Plenty are gonna see it, it is predicted to end up being one of the most successful films ever, so it could really help a lot of people!

I'm not sure what I meant by tapping, actually. LOL I think I meant typical but my fingers typed something else.

If this is all as reported, I think its a gamble for the actors and all involved.
I mean it's Hollywood and Disney and a highly anticipated film.
Lets see how they negotiate this and the next steps they'll take in this regard.

It was filmed between May and August 2015, so they have had plenty of time to prepare for any comments made and any potential backlash, which I am sure they have prepared for, there are always one or two, erm, well, d**kheads. (there really is no better way to word it!)

No doubt it will be a small, irrelevant scene which will inevitably get cut from broadcast in certain territories.

No doubt it will be a small, irrelevant scene which will inevitably get cut from broadcast in certain territories. This is very true. Middle East, a couple of Southern States in America and Russia I would imagine, where alot of stuff like LGBT Rights in film and tv has been deemed innapropriate in the past.

I do dislike it when films or television series do that. To my mind, removing the scene is worse than completely omitting it in the first place. It gives the impression that there's something to be ashamed of/hidden away. You can't edit real life like that (despite the efforts of many in power - perhaps that should be: you shouldn't edit real life like that).

Same, I can't stand it when certain cultures or goverments feel the need to make people feel like crap or feel ashamed for who they are, what they wear, how they act... especially when it is a Disney film, which is aimed at children. Obviously we don't know what the scene contains, but the film is a PG at most, so its hardly like La Feu is going to be mounting the candle stick or anything!

I've already seen a few negative comments from my gay friends that they had to announce it because now it will give homophobic/bigoted parents an excuse not to take their kids to it.

Gay subplots here are still shown without censorship ("it's a Western thing..we don't have that here" mentality). What might be omitted is any display of affection, which is also applied to heterosexual intimate scenes.

"Evermore", one of the songs made for the film is now pre-released. It's big, it's lush, it has Groban, it has many strings and a key change.. everything I'd normally enjoy. But it's bland- which I feel has been all of Alan Manken's recent work. I also saw the track listing for the film, and looks like If I Can't Love Her, Home and A Change in Me, the songs written for the stage show, aren't included. Which is fine, but I just think that they are the best ballads in the entire score.

I am dissapointed that, albeit however short the moment is, they decided to go for a villain being the first 'openly gay' character.......remember kids u can't be gay AND be good

oh god no, if they made Gaston gay because the actor playing him happened to be gay it would just help prove that gay actors can't play straight leading roles.

Just listened to the soundtrack. The amount of autotune on Emma's vocals is honestly a disgrace.
