As you say course not set up for him. Can I sit on the fence and say WVA or Roglic. Or Dumoulin as a bit more of an outsider Much as I would like it to be Ganna, having looked up the parcours Van Aert or Roglic do seem the more likely. Does anyone know why Pogacar's not doing it? Does Slovenia only have one slot?
Yes Slovenia only had one slot. Well done theglenbucklaird for calling Roglic and Dumolin. I get bronze for mentioning Dennis. Ganna was fastest at the first checkpoint but the hilly nature of the course after that scuppered his chances. WvA looked out of gas on the second circuit.

I'm not surprised that Roglic won but I'm shocked by how much. To beat 3 world champions & 1 European champion, all of whom were with a few seconds of each other, by over a minute is almost unbelievable. Jumbo Visma 1, 2 & soon-to-be-3 doesn't bode well for team competition for the next couple of seasons. Thomas didn't crash, indeed no-one crashed, but given how far behind both he & Geoghan Hart were it hardly seemed worth them turning up.

Timings must have been wrong. One of the things following le tour that has been slightly disappointing at the Olympics is the information given. Was that a contributing factor that surprised Boardman? That was a great ride by Roglic, thought commentary really underplayed this.

Talking of commentary, after the Eurosport commentators spent the whole of Evanepoel's radie saying how marvellous he is, I punched the air when Uran beat him only a couple of minutes later! Between commentators constantly going on about how special he is & him coming over as a cocky so-and-so in the first week of the Giro, I have rapidly grown to almost dislike Evanepoel.
ETA Now watching the dressage freestyle. One of the Spanish riders has just done a routine to an appaling mash-up of Verdi. I hardly noticed what the horse was doing as my ears were too busy boggling at the music jumping around between various operas every few seconds, plus the constant loud beat on top that certainly wasn't by Verdi.

Geoghan Hart was embarrassingly ineffective in the TdF - he was no use as a co-leader or as a domestique (reports kept saying he'd crashed when Thomas did but in fact he hadn't). Then he crashed in the road race here and Thomas rather surprisingly directly blamed him for his own traditional Olympic crash, which was true but an odd thing for a teammate to say in a press interview. Can't see either of those two have a future at Ineos.

The more I see of Geoghan Hart this season the more I think he was incredibly lucky to win the Giro last season. He's not looking like he's got much, if any, chance of repeating it.

That Giro was a once-in-a-lifetime event for him where the stars aligned in his favour. Weak opposition and Thomas departing early and then Dennis hauling him round the entire course.

I imagine Thomas's TdF win is likewise a one-off. Actually I'm amazed he managed to stay upright long enough to win even one grand tour! This season he's crashed, I think, 5 times already: Tour de Romandie, Criterium de Dauphine, TdF x2 & Olympics. I know all cyclists crash sometimes but 5 times in under 4 months seems excessive.

One of the Danish dressage riders has just done a routine to Les Mis music. Most of the music was orchestra-only but there were a few sections with singing and, while the lyrics weren't competely clear, some of them sounded different to the ones I know. Wondering if they were translated into Danish then back into English & got changed en route!

The Fijian rugby 7s team singing in harmony when they got their gold medals is the artistic highlight of the games so far. Just beautiful.

You wait years for a BMX medal and then two turn up at once. Silver for Kye Whyte, gold for Bethany Shriever.
Some nasty crashes in the heats, though.

Gold medal for best response when BBC tells you that Paris 2024 is not far off and you're still young goes to Duncan Scott: " Yeah, I might hit puberty by then!"

I was delighted to see Lu Yufei get through her uneven bars routine successfully today. She fell on that apparatus in the team event and fell again in the individual all-around, so she must have been incredibly nervous this time around. Disappointed for Angelina Melnikova for her slip, though, because she was doing brilliantly up to that point. I almost always hate to see it when a gymnast makes an error.

Loving the fact that in the men's high jump the two leaders were completely tied, so they decided that neither wanted to push the other into second place with a tie-breaker and they'd both have gold, thanks.

Should have been told there is one medal so get out there and jump. Dina should have tried that at the start of the first round, see if there was any takers??

I am loving this Olympics. It is great it is a showcase for sports that I wouldn’t ordinarily watch.
How the hell did Charlotte Worthington do that with her bike, she must have had ET hidden somewhere.

I am loving the media obsession with Tom Daley and his knitting/crochet.
Good on him for crafting in public.
There are those in the media trying to use this in a homophobic way. But I think people are just loving him more as a result.
And if the rumours are true about him being lined up for Strictly, viewing figures will go through the roof

He’d be a pretty good shout for Strictly. He clearly likes dance as he's a patron for New Adventures, and if he can synchronise his movements with a diving partner while they’re both hurtling through the air then a dance floor shouldn’t be much of a problem. And let’s face it, he’s never been publicity shy. I’m sure he’d quite happily show his abs off in a mesh shirt.

Rumour is that he would dance with Graziano...

Well I wonder how many of his tormentors would be brave enough to dive head first off a 10 metre platform, which is like jumping from a 6 story building. I would be bricking it.

Rumour is that he would dance with Graziano... Oh please no, Graziano is a terrible dancer and choreographer. Sadly the rest of the current male pro line up aren't much better though, the new pro Kai is probably the best of the bunch.

Bit of a shock this morning in the track cycling womens team pursuit qualifying with Germany getting a massive world record and Team GB looking a bit dodgy....my expectations have shifted with regards to that race now.

Regarding Tom, it's going to be either Graziano or Johannes because they are the males pro's who've publicly been calling for a m/m pairing and said they would want to do it. I don't think you can call any latin champion or even any professional dancer a "terrible dancer" come on......he's not my fave but he's hardly terrible is he.
Now a Tom/Gorka pairing.....

I can when I have dance experience and know much better dancers - his Latin is OK but his ballroom technique is worse than some of the celebrities we've had in the past. He isn't the only one guilty of that (Nadiya and Aljaz are the only good ballroom dancers on the show, Oti and Amy's ballroom is ok) but it is infuriating. There are much better dancers out there than most of the current Strictly pros. I only rate a few of the current crop, and Oti and Nadiya are really the only ones I would pay to see dance (I would probably also pay to take a lesson from Aljaz and Amy as well). I'd much rather see Tom with Johannes than Graziano but I think the height difference is probably too great.

That isn't really a shock on current form. Team GB were never odds on for gold. Germany were never expected to do that, the ones for Team GB to beat were USA. Chris Hoy said this morning Germany only came 6th or something the last big competition.
