Does anyone in theatre marketing really think this stupid piecemeal stuff on Social Media is making people more excited/eager to book?
"Whee, we got an announcement coming up!" "Whee, we reveal the two minor leads!" "Whee, look out for more soon!" "Whee, tonight we reveal the leads!"
What's the point? It's really just turning me off rather than eager to book something.
Sorry, rant over. But genuinely curious to hear what others think of this kind of marketing.

I agree. Totally inane with a large pinch of desperation.
When I see theatres advertising for Social Media Managers (which I do ,quite often) is this what they’re spending their day doing?

Yes these kind of tease announcements tend to annoy rather than excite me. I was far more excited when the Anything Goes cast was announced recently - with no warning or fanfare, just the usual Baz exclusive and then official announcement the following day. An announcement coming out of nowhere when you aren't expecting it feels like more of a reveal than one that has been advertised for days or weeks in advance.

How much do we read into the fact that they follow 18 accounts on twitter, one of which is Jordan Luke Gage?

Hopefully quite a bit...I bought tickets after noticing that Jordan did reply to someone on Twitter saying he needs a break after Juliet and will be in New Zealand during April, but I'll take that with a pinch of salt. Regardless of who is cast, I'm excited to see the production!

I was disappointed last week when they only announced 2 cast members, so I’ve lost interest a bit today. The only other show’s social media that is even more annoying and off putting right now is the twitter for Anyone Can Whistle at Southwark Playhouse.

I think they were stretching it when they were asking fans to comment who they’d want to cast as Bonnie and Clyde. Imagine their panic if lots of folk are putting everyone but Jordan and Frances. Was hoping for Jamie but Jordan would be a good shout.

I don't know a lot about Jordan but I have to say he was rather good in &Juliet and when I saw him perform in The Show Must Go On. Don't like the theatre - reminds me of one of those Soho dives in the 70s (so I've been told!) But I think I'll put up with it to see the musical again.

Yes, I agree that build ups to cast announcements usually end up falling flat, particularly when the vast majority already know who has been cast, even if they themselves deny it on Twitter when they could just remain silent. I much prefer casts being announced when the show is announced or without large fanfares. That way hopes cannot be built and dashed.

I honestly couldn’t be happier. I’ve been fan of Frances since Our Ladies back in 2017, and Jordan since Bat. Very excited to see Barney Wilkinson as first cover Clyde. He played Strat for a few months towards the end of the Dominion run and, my god, what a voice! He’s my favourite Strat after Andrew Polec - they sounded VERY similar.

Now I'll be praying he'll be on when I see the show.

I’m not too familiar with how this show might be staged - do we know if they’re likely to spend too much time on the corners of the stage? I’m trying to see if I’d miss much if I went for a cheaper ticket

I’m trying to see if I’d miss much if I went for a cheaper ticket During the concert I sat on the far right side of the auditorium and missed quite a few important parts. Not sure if the staging will be the same but I’d choose the far left over far right

Does anyone have any idea if this is just the Drury Lane concert reprised or a proper production? The marketing is so unclear - it talks of 'following two sell-out concerts' but also it being the 'West End premiere'. I'd definitely book for a proper production, but I have no interest in seeing a concert.

It might have a bit more staging but I'd imagine it will be pretty similar, the Arts Theatre doesn't have a whole lot of space to play with.

Thank you. That's good to know. I get frustrated by concert productions with narration and an edited selection of the songs, instead of the full book and score!

No problem. To be fair, they undersold the Drury Lane production, it was so much more than a concert production. If the Arts Theatre even matches it, it'll be fine.

There’s a great offer on band A tickets now for £37.50 - I’ve upgraded my row M stalls seats for central row D. Weekday performances only, Friday inclusive.
