Despite not living far away from the Bush Theatre (in Shepherd's Bush), tonight was the first time I've visited it. To be fair, it's been closed for much of the time I've lived locally.
It's a small theatre, three sides of raked seats, about six rows in each, with an attached bar and pleasant staff. Lots of people enjoying drinks and the sunshine outside tonight.
The play itself is a monologue, themed around colonialism and identity. It is performed well by Ronkẹ Adékoluẹjo. As for the play itself, well this theme has been very well covered in theatres over the past year and this version, focused on a woman's quest to discover why her name is incomplete, has some interesting moments, but it does end up being rather preachy (a pet hate of mine when the audience for this type of play is self-selected in the first place).
All performed without an interval, running time about 80 minutes.
The theatre is still socially distanced, so it is pleasant inside and more seats than usual were empty tonight as they were also filming for the web broadcast (presumably to leave gaps in the seating to suit the camera angles). It did get rather warm though. The audience were nicely diverse and representative of West London.
This may well be worth a look if you're in the area or you fancy checking out the streaming version. As I mentioned, I did like the Bush Theatre itself and I will certainly visit again.
