She Loves Me – Crucible Sheffield

Looking forward to hearing all about it! I’m going after Christmas. 

I went last night on the traditional first Monday showing! I did enjoy it but it just felt a little bit long. As usual the Crucible makes great use of its staging and the cast were great but it just had something missing. Although my day has been spent singing about vanilla ice cream so maybe I did like it more than I though ha. Liked it didn't love it.

What were the times? Maybe they’ll trim it down in previews, if not thank god I’m at a matinee otherwise I’d be bedding down on the bench outside the Pumpkin Cafe on platform 8!

I've never been to the crucible, is it worth splashing out on the £40 band a tickets or sitting in the side section and paying £22?

Enjoyed this tonight from the cheap side seats (didn’t feel like I missed anything with staging). Alex Young continues to combine fantastic comedy timing with perfect vocals and was made for the lead role.

They have a simple and effective set for the shop, which folds out. Lots of nice period touches.

The theatre was only about one third full, which is a shame, but people did move seats and fill the space out. I stayed in my second row seat and had a perfect view.

The sound quality was appalling for the first 15 minutes or so. First we had an echo, then it seemed like all the side speakers were turned off, so you could only hear the lines near you. This did sort itself out, but they really should have restarted the show for people who don’t know the book.

I’ve seen a few productions of She Loves Me and this rates somewhere in the middle, but full of charm and performed by a much larger cast than usual. Can’t fault any of the acting, but it’s just hard to make this style of musical come alive in such a big space. Do go see it and don’t hesitate to book the cheap seats!

You do have the most terrible luck with trains, BurlyBeaR. No word of a lie, you were the first (and only) bear I thought of this morning when I heard the travel news on the wireless. I got the impression that trains are running via Huddersfield, which would normally be nice, but not if it doubles a journey that already takes far longer than it should. 😡

At least the torrential rain hasn't materialised...yet. 🙂

Sorry to hear of your illnesses and train issues! It really does suck when life gets in the way of theatre. Hope you end up having excellent days in some other way and I'll report back later on the show 😁

Even if it was to finish on time it would have been a rush to get the 5.20 slow train. If it finishes late I’d be on a chuffing bus or hanging about at the pumpkin cafe waiting for the 6.30 slow train!

The set for this looks really ugly.
