I saw it last year and thought it was just okay. Well acted and everything but something about it didn't grab me. I didn't cry and I'm an easy crier, especially when it comes to dementia.

I get that a film of this nature probably wouldn't get made without names in the title roles.
And I also get that you don't have to be gay to play a gay character and we don't want to place artificial limits as to who can or cannot play certain types of characters
But I am a little disappointed that both leads appear to be heterosexual in orientation
Given how rare it is for older gay characters to get screen time, it is good that we have got a film telling this story.
It just doesn't sit quite right for me.

Tucci and Firth are longtime friends so building a believable relationship was pretty easy, and both have played gay characters so often the straight roles seem more unusual. And yes, the film would probably go unnoticed or not get made at all without them.

Sadly I seem to have missed the one screening this had at my local cinema, after missing it at LFF due to illness.
My friend who did see it at LFF and the Q&A after reported the director saying that it was very much cast by personal connection and that the finance came after the casting. So yes, this is a film that does not get made at all without the famous leads, and the famous leads only really attached themselves to the project as a result of personal networking by the writer-director.

Alas, this film was not for me.
I saw it yesterday afternoon.
I thought the acting from both the leads and the supporting cast was excellent and the cinematography without a doubt outstanding.
But for me, this was just far too slow.
Almost to the point where I was shuffling in my seat.
