Three newly-orchestrated symphonic suites from a selection of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s best loved musicals – Evita, The Phantom of the Opera and Sunset Boulevard – will be performed for the very first time by the 81-piece Andrew Lloyd Webber Orchestra at London’s Royal Festival Hall on 8th September.
The Symphonic Suites will also tour the UK during 2022. Accompanied by local orchestras, these dates include Manchester Bridgewater Hall on 17th September 2022, Glasgow Royal Concert Hall on 18th September 2022, Cardiff St Davis’ Hall on 24th September 2022, Nottingham Royal Concert Hall on 30th September 2022 and Liverpool Philharmonic Hall on 1st October 2022.

Imagine how much better it would sound with a 14 piece!

At £45 for the cheapest ticket (Southbank) I think I’ll get the CD and crank up my speakers instead.

I'm interested in going to hear/see this. An 81 piece orchestra with the RFH acoustics should sound wonderful.

I wasn’t going to book for this but I just realised I’ve got a whole bunch of credit vouchers for the Southbank Centre from cancelled events, so I’ve managed to get a ticket for half price! I’m sure it’ll be great to hear those scores with such a big orchestra.

Kind of late in the day to have postponed this. Interestingly, still lots of tickets available, so maybe the thought is next summer is better all round. And it's now the Royal Philharmonic I see.

It always seemed odd to me having one date a year before a tour. They were pushing it pretty heavily so I assumed sales were low but I couldn’t make the date anyway.

I don't see this as a compilation, far from it. It's his three greatest scores performed by an 80-piece symphony orchestra for the first time.

I listened to the CD over the weekend. It's rather good and lovely to hear the music played by a massive orchestra.
Also you can watch it being performed from Wednesday 6.30pm through until Friday on ALW's Channel on YouTube.

I watched last night
The orchestra and orchestrations are sublime. The whole thing brought unexpected tears to my eyes and especially the ending to Evita and Sunset sent shivers down my spine. I immediately booked tickets for the Festival Hall next year. To hear this live will be something else. Many people on last nights stream saying it's brought the music back to life and reset their appreciation of the musicality

Many people on last nights stream saying it's brought the music back to life and reset their appreciation of the musicality Have to agree its absolutely wonderful to listen to and imagine how it would sound to be in the theatre listening to it. Also loved it that the orchestra were wearing casual clothes and some even had their shopping under their seats. Even if not a fan, have a quick look as you can see how big the stage is at the Lane. It's absolutely HUGE.

Enjoyed it a lot...they're my 3 favourite scores of this composer.
But (there is a but) I've never rated Simon Lee. Everything sounds a little...off. And things that should be more up-tempo (e.g. 'Let's Have Lunch') are painfully slow without sounding down and dirty like they should. But maybe the intention is different for a symphonic suite.

Thank you for the reminder to watch before the 48 hours is up. I loved it! Incredibly emotive and stirring and all three scores sounded wonderful. Brought back some great memories of seeing the three shows.

Had they thought on and had everyone properly attired, they could have released a DVD alongside all the other formats.
There's no way I'd pay £9.99 to watch someone playing the violin in athleisure!

I rather liked the casual attire and the shopping under the seats. After all its the music we are listening to and their talent and not their dress sense.

I wonder what else we will get at the live concert? The YouTube performance was just over an hour long, it’s just those three pieces on the CD. The blurb for the show says “and much more”…
