That Times interview with Norris and Burger is quite something: "Norris and Burger want to connect with society as a whole. The Summer shows are by the straight white males Jack Thorne (After Life) and Dylan Thomas". As a straight white male I find it quite bizarre they think that Dylan Thomas would somehow "connect" more with me than, say, Noel Coward or Caryl Churchill. Why ? I mean I didn't even know that Dylan Thomas was straight - why would I ? Did Jack Thorne have to self-declare as straight before they commissioned him for the Summer season ? Anyway, useful to know that nothing in their season other than these two would "connect" with me so I don't need to bother seeing them. sounds like they are tying themselves in knots to virtue signal to everyone at the same time. Quite sad that is the sort of thing our arts professionals are doing. Focus on doing good work not indulging in patronising posturing.

I would have thought the defining characteristic of Dylan Thomas is not that he was straight and white but rather that he was Welsh. And dead of course, a group of authors who are badly under-represented in the NT programming.

I'm sorry The Welkin isn't coming back - hopefully an archive recording will come up on NT at Home at some point. Doubtful. They seem not have done an arichive recording of 'The Welkin' or 'The Visit', both of which I was about to see last year and which I now condider 'lost plays'. They probably wanted to wait for the NT Live recording which of course never happened. In hindsight they should have recorded everything that was on in March, so they could do something with it later...but who expected it to last more than a year at the time. Sad really.

Oh that's a real shame. There were some clips used in a trailer for it (rehearsal?) so maybe there's something somewhere.

I haven't read the interview, but regarding 'diversity' Jack Thorne is (or has been) disabled and is active in promoting disabled talent. People with disabilities are probably the least represented group in drama, TV etc., not only in productions but not even able to access some venues to watch them either.

Here's an interesting piece about Dylan Thomas's sexuality: medium.com/queertheory/the-queer-life-of-dylan-thomas-991a61c3849c

Could someone also clarify if Paradise will continue playing in the round or will we get that amazing backdrop back? Thanks
