Oh that trailer is good, makes me wish this will my Broadway show next month but it's going to be a weekend & seems it's a hot ticket!!
It's between 'Waitress' & 'Come From Away' (the latter I plan to Day seat).
I can't wait for the cast recording, one of my favourite scores and can't wait to hear the additional songs made for the stage version.

Somewhat surprised to see Anastasia receive 13 nominations at the Outer Critics this morning... the season high, more nominations than Hello Dolly!

Well to be fair, no reviews matter for a show like this. It's doing exceedingly well at the box office and will likely continue to for a good while.

I knew the important reviews for this would be mostly negative. The film in the 90s was amazing - the stage show I saw last week varied from great to bad to a big mess. Such a shame as the cast is very good just the production, book and direction generally poor. It needs a lot of work - there is a great show in there somwwhere! Has anyone else apart from me seen it on here?

It was mixed reviews...both positive and negative The ones that matter were negative The one's that matter kept making Trump references and talked down to teen girls bc, hey they're teen girls. Even looking at the comments on the NYT review, most are disagreeing with Brantley. Anyway, like someone's already said, it doesn't matter what the reviews are, it's doing really well.

Agreed- this isn't groundbreaking theatre. The target audience is 12 year old girls, 30something women and showqueens who grew up watching the movie (raises hands!). No Russian history buff is out here to see this. So if it's culturally sloppy, it's pretty much what I can expect from American musical theatre. After all, it's in the same town where Miss Saigon and Aladdin are playing. Cultural sensitivity or accuracy is not the forte of commercial Broadway musicals. PS- I don't think you're a PR troll, btw. You don't exhibit the traits of a PR person, a troll, or a PR troll See that's my issue with this show. I essentially grew up with the movie, but as a massive history buff, I now cringe at a lot of the inaccuracies (same goes for Pocahontas, which I grew up knowing every word of). I'm probably going to pick the soundtrack up when it comes out, but if it did happen to come to the West End (to be honest, I'd rather see Waitress and The King & I transfer first), I'd have to go in with the mindset that it's based more off the movie than any kind of historical accuracy. I definitely understand a lot of it being targeted at an American audience, who may not pick up on the errors.

To be fair, they have tried to make it more historically accurate than the animated film. I've seen people say it's a combination of that film and the Ingrid Bergman film. But I guess they have to find a way to fit the well-known songs in, because that's the real selling point, and most of the songs do contain historical inaccuracies.

This is very random and unimportant but just wondering - is the normal American pronunciation of Anastasia "Anastasha"? (not sure how to write it - but if you watch any of the opening night videos for example that's how they all pronounce it, whereas I would pronounce the S as an S and not a "sh")

I hope the original cast goes to London. Christy is amazing in the role and I hope she could get an Olivier nom (and maybe a win) as she was snubbed for a Tony nom.

I read that tweet more as we being the show itself and not the cast.
It is also a vague press release, possibly to tie in with the tonys the same way shows often announce us tours that never happen. Thats an awful lot of cities to be planning so soon, not even major shows do that. Unless they are thinking a world tour instead of sit down productions

Thats an awful lot of cities to be planning so soon, not even major shows do that. Unless they are thinking a world tour instead of sit down productions They could easily be selling the rights to local producers in these markets who will just duplicate. Most of these London and Broadway productions are documented and precisely staged so that they can run and be replicated in other locations without the hands on involvement of the original team. Alternatively they could just be selling the rights for new, non-replica versions, which I suspect will be the ones adapted in Korea and Russia as they tend to do their own productions after getting the rights.

Since Stage Entertainment got their mitts on this, I assume they would produce a copycat production in Russia. IIRC they had planned to open this (or another Anastasia?) in Moscow initially before going somewhere else but nothing came of it.
The countries mentioned in the press release are mostly those where Stage Entertainment is active and East Asia, where they love musicals to do with European history. German fans will lap this up, too. I'll hold out for London or Holland though where it will cost half what it costs in Germany with usually better quality.

Having spoken to the producers there is no plan in taking this to Russia or London. It's a pipe dream. They said it is selling very well because of tourists and teenage girls but they are far from happy with the creative aspect show. The set was designed cheaply incase it flopped on Broadway and could then be toured. They also are not happy with the role of Gleb and the music in general. If it is shown anywhere else expect lots of major changes, rewrites, a new book and set! It's great to continue to work on shows. Look at Love Never Dies.

I think the score is lovely, both the old and new songs. Hope they don't change it.

Saw this over the weekend. Sad to say they have missed the mark on this at so many levels. From the cheap set that looks like a touring Kenwright show rather than a new Broadway spectacle to removing Rasputin and adding the strange and badly written character of Gleb. The show was badly directed, had lots of historical and cultural innacuracies and at times with starving soviets I found it at times in bad taste (the Baricade it isn't). The projections too made me dizzy. It will sell and run for a bit - but it's an epic fail from me sadly.
