It's a shame Elaine Paige never had a proper West End "swan song" - Fraulein Schneider might be a nice auf wiedersehen.

It's a shame Elaine Paige never had a proper West End "swan song" - Fraulein Schneider might be a nice auf wiedersehen. Her last West End gig was Drowsy Chaperone, wasn't it? She was god awful in it and it didn't last. Her last proper swan song (if you'd even call it that) was Follies on Broadway which is a pretty decent last hurrah. Has she done anything meaty since apart from panto? You need a real actress for Schneider. Sara Kestelman was sublime in the 1993 Donmar production (she won the Olivier for it too I believe), Mary Louise Wilson was equally good in the Broadway transfer, and Linda Emond did the role in the last Mendes mounting on Broadway (2014). Sheila Hancock did it in 2006 in London, and also won the Olivier for her performance. It's a really good part if you get the right person, so hopefully it's someone good. I wouldn't mind seeing someone like Monica Dolan or Frances Barber tackle it.

I still think Anita Dobson would be great. Or Maria Friedman. I don’t rate her but Louise Gold also seems to work a lot?

Would people rather we said nothing/gave no hints and just wait for the company to officially announce (or Baz) or what?
I genuinely can't keep up with what this board is actually for anymore.

Most people enjoy the insider hints and gossip and totally understand that there are limits to what can be said. You carry on! The only time it gets a bit much is when people have “taunted” members but I don’t see that happen a lot these days. When it does it’s usually been less well known members who, in my opinion, are probably not genuine industry insiders anyway.

Have to say I don't like those "I know something you don't but I am not going to tell you" comments . Just makes them look smug. But I love a bit of gossip or a scoop.

Baz just confirmed it is Rebecca Frecknall directing, opening in November.
I was hoping it wouldn’t be Jamie Lloyd directing but, having only seen Summer and Smoke by her, isn’t her style kind of similar?

Pleased to see there's a lot of women on the creative team - correct me if I'm wrong but this is the first time a woman has directed a major production of Cabaret right? (West End or Broadway)

Relieved this isn't Jamie Lloyd after all! Definitely excited for this one, as I'd passed on my last two opportunities to see the stage show (one in Berlin...wasn't convinced by the quality of the production; and the last Bill Kenwright revival).
