It's a decent score by Andrew Lippa and Carolee Carmello sang the living hell out of it. Rachel Tucker's "The Road Ends Here" will be terrific

There's a gorgeous off Broadway version of Kate Baldwin too.
Lovely to have Rachel in a musical again, even better that it's somewhere so intimate like Southwark

I'm excited. Understandably fringe shows appear to be slow announcing news compared to the McMusicals and I was starting to worry.
I'm taking my mum. We have wine snob cousins called John & Joan so we've renamed this show!

It's in The Little which can get kinda grim in the heighr of summer, and does tend to pack them in, but seeing Rachel Tucker in such an intimate space has to be done.

This was at the Union Theatre which I watched. Beautiful score but the actress wasn't the best.
Saw Kate Baldwin do a show off Broadway - she was amazing, the show was.... um - NOT VERY GOOD.

I rather liked the clip. I shall give this a go as I like Andrew Lippa's music and love Rachel Tuckers voice.

It's kind of interesting that this revised version is set in 1985 (Act 1) and 2005 (Act 2), rather than - mostly - the 60s and 90s respectively like the original. I'm so used to the specific 60s cultural clash between the siblings in Act 1. But who knows, the change might work great.

I presume John will now die in the first US invasion of Iraq (1991) rather than Vietnam. Also interesting that Jason Robert Brown has redone the orchestrations. Not clear who has re-written the lyrics/book to account for the "updating". |

I don't like that Yeah it's playing in The Little which doesn't have seat numbers, they change the layout for every production and you just sit wherever you want when you get there. Just get there 10 minutes earlier than you would normally and you'll be fine. Rachel is always worth it 😁 |

Caught this tonight as my final show of my 2 day trip. Brilliant performances
from Lewis and Rachel. To be able to watch Rachel belt out a tune in the way she does so well in such an intimate venue will certainly give you goosebumps. A really decent score that soars with these two acting their socks off. Tissues at the ready…

I don’t know anything about musical theatre but I enjoyed this, despite the sweatbox that is the SWP’s studio. However I felt changing the era did not work at all.

Sweatbox? It was so cold in there last night I nearly asked if they had a blanket! Getting soaked on my way to the theatre probably didn't help.
As for the show, I loved it (as did Rachel's little boy who was watching with his Dad and loudly declared it "very good" as the lights came up at the interval). Rachel and Lewis work beautifully together and their vocals aren't too shabby either.

It was like an oven in there yesterday afternoon...
I liked it, but I didn't love it.
Both Rachel and Lewis work well together in the piece. I did find the first half to be massively depressing, but the humour is all in Act 2 and it to me felt like a much better show in the second half. 3 stars Act 1, 4 stars Act 2.

Southwark have hit theatrical gold with this and Mincemeat running simultaneously.
The band sound glorious. 3 strings and keys in such small space is an absolute luxury.
Both performers are knockout and I loved the piece. I was a mess in act 1, thinking about my relationship with my sister. Mum was a mess in 2 thinking her relationship with ... We both hugged each other at the end.

I remembered I had some PAYG credits for the Southwark Playhouse so took a spontaneous trip down tonight to see this.
It didn't quite land for me. Rachel Tucker and Lewis Cornay both give great performances but the music didn't do much for me. There aren't many standout songs and it all starts to sound the same, however well it's sung. Rachel's 'The Road Ends Here' is the obvious highlight and she nails it. She really is one of the finest examples of how to act through song.
Worth a watch and lovely to be in such an intimate space. I'm giving the score another go on the train home but I can't cope with Carolee Carmello's voice, I might have to switch to the Kate Baldwin one!

Wasnt too hot on the plot, but i enjoyed the songs and it was funny in places, so a good show in a good venue
