Think you're right. Though is my hunch that the film will never happen. Glennis already too old and if they don't make it now she will be ridiculously too old.... In my programe from the New Wimbledon (which I assume would have the same layout in all venues anyway) there’s a piece with Christopher Hampton talking about his journey with Sunset and at the end he’s quoted saying “I delivered the screenplay of Sunset Boulevard - The Musical a couple of months ago, which Paramount will make next year with Glenn Close as Norma”. If this is true then “next year” means this year because this piece was probably written for the start of the tour. Maybe that was the intent, but if it was going into production this year we would have known by now surely.

I think it's fantastic that someone your age is getting into the theatre. I don't mean this as patronising at all, I genuinely think it's brilliant and a great sign that theatre won't die with us oldies 😉 you also have great taste in musicals! Yes I agree, although Robert I'd hardly class you as an oldie! All our top tens are going to be different I guess, like our taste in music will differ but that is why the theatre scene is so diverse. I must admit personally to prefer musicals, but have been known to see the odd play here and there. Live performance of any kind is always preferable to recorded. I am getting excited at seeing Kim Wilde this Saturday in Birmingham.

The one thing that really annoyed me about this is that Danny’s bio in the programme, whoever’s decision it was, totally ignored the fact he was in Hollyoaks. No mention of it AT ALL. It mentioned him winning a TV award, but didn’t say it was for Hollyoaks. Pure snobbery. Winds me up no end .

Depressingly, in ten years or so, someone will be referring to Wicked and Legally Blonde as “classics” 😖🙄. It has been Defying Gravity since 2003 don't you know!? (I agree, that is depressing)

(I agree, that is depressing) Sorry I have taken this thread way off the original subject, but I want to add my personal comment to what has just been said. I really can't believe that it is twelve years now since I walked out of an early London preview of Wicked in the interval because I thought it was a waste of my time, but I went back and stayed to the end a few days later because the Theatremonkey said the second act was much better, and he was right. I guess that because the music of Stephen Schwartz leaves me cold is one reason that I was not impressed, but I was disappointed with the staging, especially for 'Defying Gravity', and it wasn't until the second act that I thought the story began to work for me. But I think that Wicked has inevitably now become a 'classic' and that's all there is to it!

I wouldn't be surprised if soon enough there were posters on the tube reading something like "See the classic production in it's whatever year" This is now completely off topic but I really liked the "Tonight belongs to Phantom ads" they should do them again! Anyway...

"In regards to the staging, your observations are spot on! We wanted the set to become more juxtaposed and fractured as Norma's mental health deteriorates. As her world crumbles around her, so does the physical space. It's wonderful you noticed so accurately what we wanted to portray."Amazing use of physical subtext there. Just another reason why I've loved this tour so much.

Last day of the tour today. It's been nice to see that it was a success.
I caught uo with it again on Thursday after last seeing it many months ago right at the start, at the dress rehearsal. It certainly has bedded in and become a much slicker show since then, as one would expect. There are many impressive aspects to this, certainly the orchestra and set were so good for a tour.
I really loved it and feel quite proud it came from my local.
Also shout out to the lovely bloke next to me who i got chatting to in the interval and then by chance on the way home too! I'm sure you are reading and make sure you sign up and start posting. Your contributions would be really welcomed i'm sure.

From Ria’s twitter it looks like this may get a limited run back at the Adelphi after Kinky Boots closes before Poppins or whatever show it turns out to be opens! Wouldn’t that be fabulous??!

The show was great as a tour but it doesn't have the aesthetic to come into town. Especially some of the costumes. Ria was great but she's not a star and this is certainly a star vehicle...

There's plenty of shows currently in the West End that have no more of this perceived "aesthetic" than the Sunset tour.

The tour was great but not good enough for the West End. I also found Ria’s voice really annoying and scratchy. Danny Mac was superb.

There's plenty of shows currently in the West End that have no more of this perceived "aesthetic" than the Sunset tour. I hear you. Its just my opinion that Ria's costumes left a lot to be desired and her makeup was a bit too "bold." The wigs were also cheap looking. Just my opinion.

Chipping in to say I can look past the wigs and the makeup because the rest of the production - mostly importantly direction, lighting, sound - are all of a very high standard on this production and in my opinion completely trump some sat down WE productions. I'd love to see a short run of this in the big smoke.

I agree. I thought the whole thing was of a very high standard and i can't say i had any issues with the costumes at all. The wigs i rarely notice in anything unless they are strikingly bad and they never came across to me that way here.
It seems silly to say this is not good enough for the WE when we've had some of the thing in the WE we've had over the last few years. Of all the recent tours this must be one the highest quality productions suitable for the WE. Probably along with The Addams Family, which i also could have seen in the WE.

That's true to a point. Although it wasn't promoted at all. It was barely promoted in the streets of Wimbledon!
It didn't come up on any of the regular ticket offer emails I get, so I think it's medicore attendance was as much to do with the fact that zero effort or resource was put in to promoting its presence in London.

Concert version of Sunset will be part of the programme of newly re-opened Curve over Christmas.
Featuring Ria and Danny (rest of cast TBA) and 16 Piece Orchestra. Presented in the round with 553 capacity and featuring a revolve.

Dougie Carter sounding awesome there. He was a fab Joe Gillis, likewise Molly Lynch. This was a great production.
