In Newcastle it was just CDs (the remastered London cast recording - £15), magnets (£6) and mugs (can't remember the price). The mug and magnet have the new branding on. No brochures, just the house programme. They're selling the remastered London with LuPone? That's really surprising

The audience went mental for it didn’t they? Looked round at it was a full ovation as far as I could see from the front stalls.
Just to comment on some of the previous criticisms:
The car sequences are great, both Joe’s early chase and Betty’s rush to the mansion. The cast do not look too young. De Mille is played by an older cast member. Ok he’s not 80 but you wouldn’t employ an 80 year old just for that would you. Adam Pearce is bloody brilliant. I was watching him in the madness scene and despite the fact that 99.9% of the audience was watching Norma, and he was semi turned away from the audience, he was crying. Acting darling! Norma’s costumes are beautiful, the only one I didn’t think worked was the return to the studio. Didn’t like the feathers and sparkly fabric. Noisy set transitions. Yes, moving big sets around makes noise. Sorry about it!
Go see it.

I saw the Broadway revival with the 'semi staging' and thought that it was excellent.
I will be interested to see how this tour compares...
Has anyone seen Norma's understudy yet?

Fantastic production. Sound was excellent and the band sounded superb. The leads were all great. Danny Mac was good and he can act and sing...Ria has fantastic expressions and her journey to madness was good and I could listen to her voice all day. I did find the moving of the set and staircase a bit annoying at times but it was clever staging .

Just purchased Ria Jones covers of Sunset (and Evita) from Jay Records - (didnt realize they released this long awaited album on Oct 6) - she sounds fantastic. Happy she's finally having her turn at playing Norma

Echoing the love. Absolutely brilliant. One of the highest calibre touring musicals I've seen in a while. I couldn't sleep last night for re-watching the highlights in my head over and over. The comments I heard around the theatre during the interval and afterwards all seem to echo this, sheer love for the production, including "I only came to see Danny Mac, didn't think I'd like it, but it's amazing".
Like Burly, some critique/comments on previous comments/praise... - Massive love for the ensemble, that final "Paramount is paradise" of Lets Have Lunch blew me away. So good! - I liked the car/chase sequences with the cut away car, but not as much as the previous tour where it was basically done with blackout/headlights. - Some of the projection was verging on distracting for me, in an already busy stage it was possibly too much, but maybe that adds to the heightened tension and madness we see grow. I loved the part where Betty was driving over to the house and some of the projection included stage directions and script, that was genius, they missed a real trick there though by not using that more often, especially in the opening scene. - Salome is one of my favourite songs of the show, but don't know if it was because I was in too much anticipation of it, but it fell a little flat musically, it lacked a little power acoustically and depth, Rias eyes during it though! - I had no issue with the age of any of the casting and thought the cast looked complete and together, no one looked out of place. - I thought the staircase was clever, no issue with any of it, loved how it broke apart and came together and was used in the scenes away from Norma's house. - Danny Mac (The bit people won't like) I've not seen him in anything else so no preconceptions. Vocally very good and fitted the role, but physically I didn't like him. He was a bit too loose. I know Joe is supposed to appear a bit cocksure and arrogant but for me DM appeared a bit too like a drunk Danny Zuco, his arms all over the place and some very weird bending. Did people really wear their trousers that high in the 50s?
So tempted to go catch it again during its 2 weeks in Manchester.

The ENO version depicted Norma in her youth by having “other Norma” pacing around in ballet pumps with her toes pointed. This production shows her on the silver screen, right where you’d expect her to be.
God this show would be an amazing film if they did it right.

You have no idea how happy it makes me to see this go down so well with both people on here and the critics. Because Curve is my local i do feel very attached to it and protective of it and it's safe to say that that their productions up to now have had mixed reactions, so it's no nice to see this be so successful on top of Adrian Mole as well which went down well in London too.
I'm seeing Sunset again next month in Birmingham and it will interesting to see how it's developed and settled down, seeing as i only saw the dress rehearsal.

The projection definitely does highly the cinematic qualities of the production. I just didn't like some elements, like during the first part of the projection in Betty's driving sequence, all the typeset letters with 'Fear', 'Demise', etc highlighted until it switched to the script and cues (which I loved). Also in the the cafe having the street scene rear projected was effective, but did it really need the animated cars bouncing along? They were distracting for me, taking away from some of the action. It showed that they didn't really need it in the fact that for the second cafe scene (new years) the rear projected scene didn't return.

Also, gotta say one of my favourite parts of the evening was the genuine look of surprise and awe Ria had as the whole stalls shot up in ovation as soon as she walked out. She looked genuinely appreciative. It must a be a wonderful feeling to get that response.

For me one of the highlights when i saw it was the orchestra. It's a large one already for a tour (or even we show) but it even managed to sound twice it's size. I thought it was brilliant and very swelling.
