Concert version of Sunset will be part of the programme of newly re-opened Curve over Christmas. Featuring Ria and Danny (rest of cast TBA) and 16 Piece Orchestra. Presented in the round with 553 capacity and featuring a revolve. I heard this might be filmed? Guess we'll see. Funny how often this is getting put on now after a big gap between the closure of the original production and the Watermill production. |

It’s great to be a shrewd & canny businessman as long as you give back, and he does more than his fair share of giving back. His foundation is so frequently listed in production credits in some crazily unexpected shows so one can only assume his philanthropic side is as well developed as his business head.
...they should have said they needed a triple revolve though, we’ve two in our garage.

Goddamn Spherical Sunset Boulevard is tempting but Mid December is going to be hard one to plan ahead for. If the rumours are true as scarpia mentions, it'd be a brilliant opportunity to get Sunset filmed in Concert style, pre-film, if ALW was feeling productive that is. Looking at how well his back catalogue did for Shows Must Go Online, I'd hope he'd be a little bit tempted. |

I love Sunset, and missed Danny Mac on the UK tour as he didn't do the Bristol dates so am keen to book for this. Just need to check the rules, it may be easier to drive in and out rather than stay over.

Aww, damn, I'd have loved to see this but have a deep and abiding hatred of things done in the round. Means you never have the 'good seats' and it drives me nuts when they turn their backs.

They appear to have done what the LeedsPlayhouse did for 🦁 🧙 and used the studio space for the fourth side.

Looks like the same set up they used for the Curve at 10 show Yeh it's the same. I'd be quite interested in sitting on the stage but I'm not quite convinced that will be a great viewing angle, even with the revolve, but it would be interesting to be that close and amongst it. |

I do kind of agree. Things that are 100% in the round (or in the 'square' in this case), once you get over the novelty, are almost impossible to stage satisfactorily. As there are so many bad viewing angles. I think you can be almost in the round quite nicely. Going back, Cats at New London was probably two thirds in the round, but still had the focal point of the back wall and was so creative and immersive that you didn't really have a bad viewing angle. Having said all that I loved this show at the Curve and will be booking I think. Though Heaven knows with the rapidly escalating climate if it will happen, and if it does, whether I will be allowed to travel up from Brighton and stay in a hotel. Though hopefully being in a bubble of one works in my favour. After the Les Mis scrum, for which I am incredibly grateful I coughed up for DMT+; I am wondering if to become a Curve member. I know we're not talking the same insane demand levels, but the Curve do have an incredibly loyal local base and the big musicals there do sell out very quickly. It's also a very short run, and over the festive period. |

I don't love that way of staging things either but to be fair in this case you understand why they need to do it, they have to maximise the number of tickets they can sell and folks that can see it and luckily they have a building that enables them to maximise capacity in this way.
I have been to a performance where they used this seating plan, their birthday concert, and actually it was fine, even when I was stuck right at the side. Of course you get them turning their backs to the other sides but it didn't bother me too much and the stage space looks very open.

Totally agree it's the right thing to do in these circumstances. Also it's a very interesting building and was designed as a versatile space so I will be fascinated to see what it looks like in this format. Further the creative team behind this are brilliant so I don't doubt that they'll pull it off. And no doubt it will sound glorious. |

I was expecting a mad rush for tickets, but this was very smooth. The singles are going fast (as they do everywhere), but I was able to get a good seat. Something to look forward to, I just hope there aren't any travel restrictions imposed before the concert.
