I cant believe i'm saying this, but that's not a terrible idea.... When Faith Brown did the 1st tour, she hadnt been heard of for years and it still did well. Jane Macdonald, with some extensive acting lessons, could be ok. I'd go!

She said in an interview with Lorraine Kelly around the time she was doing Cats in Blackpool that Norma Desmond was the one role she'd love to play.

Earl Carpenter did a podcast a few years back (he was Joe in the 2001 tour)... let's just say Faith Brown wasn't adored by her colleagues. She was meant to be great at being a washed up has-been, make of that what you will.

Saw the show last night and adored it.
So the car.
Joe's car is fantastic a theatrical reimagining of a vehicle, expertly used in two sequences, stage hands spinning and twirling it round, great back screen projections.
At the interval I commented to my friend ' I can't see why people are complaining about the car'
Second half Norma's arrival at Paramount in her car...
Friend in my ear 'oh! THAT'S the car!'
For me its arrival totally pulled me out of the show while it's on stage.
Ria Jones.
I was first out of my seat for a standing ovation at the end of the show.
She's magnificent in it.
Coquettish, conniving, manipulating and insane.
Danny Mac
He's awfully pretty in the trunks.
Solid voice and performance,
Rest of cast excellent.
Loved the projections, although the clever clever one of passing cars when they're in Schwab's was distracting for me.
Stand out moment As If We Never Said Goodbye, when Ria gets bathed in the spotlight then the whole stage illuminated in warm gold light as she sings and is surrounded, as she sees it, by an adoring throng of studio folk.
Running time flew by for me, such a solid book and great score.
Although I do think it's a hard sell minus a huge star in it.
'Woman becomes obsessed with manipulative grifter, he breaks her heart and she kills him'
Might not draw in your casual punters.
Looked stunning at Curve, of which as a local goer I'm immensely proud of, and that Orchestra sounded lush, full and gloriously romantic.
Go see.

So the car was still wheeled on in a bare wood wheelbarrow thing? Bizarre. Literally just paint it. I think the car itself is okay it just what they use to bring it on and off. It will get panned by the critics will that. It's ridiculous. I think I'm seeing the show again in saturday. I'll be interested to see if anything has changed and what's got slicker and tighter after a week. |

How inconsiderate of the people behind, who either have to miss seeing the performers take their bows or have to stand as well. Oh, dear; this modern fad--encouraged by those dreadful TV talent shows--for members of the audience feeling a need to be seen: "Look at me, expressing my appreciation." |

Maybe Jane Macdonald was mentioned as a joke (I think), but I'd actually love to hear her sing the music. Not sure her acting stands up, but I do love her voice. I was never a fan when she 'took off' but I've been in a couple of things where she was involved. I've never forgot how amazing she sounded just singing in a plain old room, no mic or fancy tweaking, during the first rehearsal.

He is MT trained though. Did Wicked amongst other things pre soap acting. |

Very strange that they are cancelling dates such a long way in the future - you'd have thought they'd give them a chance to sell before pulling them.
Agree with others that the musical itself should be a big enough name to sell tickets!

Apparently they're "checking with the venue" so it doesn't seem as though anyone is keeping them updated! |

I must say, Faith Brown is one of the best Norma's I've seen and heard: But nobody beats Debra Byrne: I didn't get to see that tour (although I would've loved to). Of the three I've seen live Kathryn Evans was incredible, Glenn Close was good and Jessica Martin was okay. I can't wait to see this tour, but I am a huge fan of the Watermill actor musician production, so it may take something special for me personally. |

Ah right, I don't watch any talent shows but I've seen and loved people in shows I've never heard of, who are famous from being in them... so I'll keep an open mind. |

I hear the touring is closing early because the show has international dates booked already.
If you check out the producers websites (Michael Harrison and David Ian) a lot of their shows go abroad so this makes sense?
