Tim Minchin has mentioned he is working on a new musical (more complex and darker than both Matilda and Groundhog Day) with a British playwright so maybe that could be one of them. Last I heard, which was fairly recently on a podcast, the lead producer (Andre Ptaszynski) died suddenly and that project so it has been kicked into the long grass sadly as Minchin was very close with them having done Matilda and Groundhog Day together. He's not half having a bad run of things is Minchin, from the fizzling out of GHD on Broadway to the movie that got pulled, now this. |

I've performed The Witches of Eastwick and it's a great show for females!!! I'd actually love it to be updated for today as it is quite dated. What’s dated about it? Why update it? That’s the show. Does Kiss Me Kate, King and I and Grease need woke makeovers? Fascinating discussion I only wish it had been made in the 70’s and they were bored pill popping housewives dancing with the devil, ‘Valley of the Dolls’ style. |

How about The Who’s Tommy or How To Succeed...both are fabulous and in a need of revivals...in my book at least!!

In terms of Broadway transfers never seen here I would like them to try - A gentleman’s guide to love and murder - Newsies
- Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 And yet to make it to Broadway but A strange loop sounds interesting. I have been desperate for Newsies for ages. Love the score. The gritty story is Disney saccharin-ised somewhat but overall I think it's a fantastic show. Some of the dances are breathtaking and I think it has some of Menken's best music. Is it the kind of thing The National would do though. My other looooooong awaited transfer is Aida. Again not sure would the the Nash's fare? Also, I know they've done it twice now, but I'd happily return to Follies. (Into the realm of dreams only, I'd be there for a high camp production of Moby Dick too lol). |

I am also desperate to see Newsies but I've heard a few times that we don't have the talent pool here to do it. Not sure I agree with that.

I deffo don't agree with that - think it's just a slightly rubbish excuse. The show does have some passionate fans. I guess sadly producers have felt it wouldn't sell at scale in the UK? And I guess you can't really stunt cast it (bad for us but good for sales) as the leads really do need to be fantastic singers AND dancers. I was also sorry to have missed the NT versions of Carousel, Oklahoma and South Pacific - so would like to see them have another go at any of those. Ditto King and I though we've had that recently of course (again I missed it!) |

I was lucky ( & old enough!) to have seen the NT productions of South Pacific with Matthew Bourne's drill matching opening,Susan Stroman's exhilarating dance to "The Farmer and the Cowman" and the collective sign when Hugh Jackson came on stage for the first time and particularly Carousel with Kenneth McMillian's stunning choreography and to be honest having seen those superlative productions - & not forgetting Guys & Dolls - I've been spoilt for any other versions. I wonder if a revival rather than a new production would be worth it as so many new theatregoers missed them the first time around 🤔 I've been loving that Carousel revival cast recording recently (well the Broadway transfer because Audra McDonald is unmatched) and I'd love to be able to see it staged. Especially since it'd be a different Billy - boy Michael Hayden's acting must have really been something special to get over those vocals because it's been hard to look past them on an otherwise flawless recording, especially after hearing Joshua Henry sing the part (though there it's the reverse problem where his acting leaves something to be desired). |

I would love the chance to see the Hytner Carousel. It was on before I could afford to come to London for shows. I also remember the excitement of Oklahoma! and that big collective sigh for Hugh Jackman who was unknown at the time. The Olivier almost went into orbit during "The Farmer and the Cowman" which left the audience delirious. Alas the production of South Pacific was disappointing despite Philip Quast's magnificent Emile. If Daniel Evans does a great production at Chichester perhaps that could do a season in the Olivier. I'd imagine other R&H fans are excited to hear Julian Ovenden sing this score.

Id love to see Hadestown return and a revival of Kiss of the Spiderwoman. It would be amazing if they went with new shows though as well as ones that are rarely produced.

Yeah I was wondering if Hadestown would possibly return since they obviously have that existing relationship, but I would imagine with the success it's seen on Broadway that it would want a more permanent spot on the West End. Unless it did a limited run at the National to test the waters before transferring? |

I'd love the NT to tackle On the 20th Century Nine Grand Hotel All expensive to stage and possibly never to been seen again on the West End stage. Gosh, a National Theatre glitzy production of Nine would be something. |

I'd like them to revive their own musical Seberg. Obviously, I'm joking but it would be interesting to see it. I saw it. It was very dull. Maybe in the hands of a better director of musicals than Peter Hall it would be better. But I doubt it. I’ve always thought the NT should do a massive production of Blitz ! in the Olivier. At one time the RSC planned a production of it for the Barbican but it never happened. Having listened to the cast album I’m doubtful it would be much good, but I think it’s the sort of thing they *should* be doing. |

I saw a production of BLITZ at the Union Theatre recently and was horrified of all the antisemitic dialogue bearing in mind the musical was written by Lionel Bart.I suppose it was a comment of the times in WW2 East End but I found it very uncomfortable to listen to. And I'm not easily shocked. Just from the recording it seemed to me it was very much to the same template as Oliver !, some of the same characters but with different names. |

They might as well aim high - Trevor Nunn’s choice of the greatest musical of all time - West Side Story. He never directed it due to the restrictive rights, I think the original choreography had to be used, but that doesn’t seem to be an issue now as I see the Ivo Van Hove Broadway version dispensed with it and had various cuts ?
