This is unfortunately way beyond Jenna's vocal capability. A shame that Jo Riding is slightly too old for this now - my punt would be Waddingham although I fear in the Donmar she would knock our heads off 😂

I had thought that but jaggy has now said that it’s not an American. Also it’s all relative but I wouldn’t call 2015 “not too long ago”.

2017 is only 5 years ago so could be classed as recent, and she has done multiple shows on Broadway as well as here. God I’d love for it to be Rachel!

Isn’t Rachel Tucker way too young?
If only Ruthie still had her voice, she’d have been amazing in this.

Isn’t Rachel Tucker way too young? If only Ruthie still had her voice, she’d have been amazing in this. Trusted Wikipedia: Diana: "A suburban mother. Sharp. Delusional bipolar depressive. Thirties or forties." Rachel’s 41 now so can’t see that being a problem as she played Beverly Bass (49 when 9/11 happened). Alice Fearn is another recent Elphaba to throw into the mix. Rachel would be my preference, she’s got the grit!

Rachel Tucker is 41 according to Wikipedia, so would fit the bill on age criteria. Has she got acting range? Her voice was decent in Wicked, but her acting was stiff (although it is with everyone, due to the rigid direction. This is the only thing I’ve seen her in.
Diana is a hugely challenging role. It requires outstanding acting and the ability to sing a challenging score with rock-opera and more “traditional” musical theatre styles.
So basically you’re looking for someone who can “sell” what is ostensibly a rock musical (“Wish I Were Here”, “You Don’t Know”, “Didn’t I See This Movie”) then two songs later give a masterclass in acting through song while singing more typical ballads “So Anyway”, “I Miss the Mountains”.
On top of that she has to act one of the most complex roles in musical theatre history.
…
I really don’t envy the casting director.

Apparently a wickedly talented MT icon was approached but decided not to take it on.
If they were casting a Brit I said it should be Jo or Waddingham to friends. Jo looks great for her age, reads younger and I'd loveee to see her take on a role like this. Waddingham would have been amazing too and the show would have most likely transferred.

I would say that Rachel Tucker fits the bill well for all of that then

The score is challenging. Alice Ripley pretty much ruined her voice during her run and on tour - she ended up missing many shows on tour (including mid-show at least once). (now, this also may be due to Ripley's "technique" or lack of "technique") We saw her after she'd left the Broadway cast for a short time and on the first stop of the national tour and her voice was already a bit tired (or more likely, not recovered).

Caissie Levy? Canadian working in Broadway and London I’m pretty sure it’s her. She is following both the Donmar, the casting director and the artistic director. Her most recent like was the Donmar’s tweet announcing the show. I’ll do a few more checks and ask people who might know, but I feel quite confident it’s her.
