Sheffield Teachers Operatic Society (one of the big three) presents the city premiere of Sunshine on Leith at the Lyceum. Tuesday 15 to Saturday 19 November. I won't be making this same lazy gag as Sheffield Theatres has! 🙄

I caught a production of The Light in the Piazza on Saturday night by the Royal Academy of Music here in London.
Such a sublime score, I saw it when it played at the Southbank Centre a couple of years back.
This production was just sensational.
It's a shame that it only ran for about 4 performances only.

Wish I'd known a week ago. would definitely have booked if not sold out. Somehow missed the post about it. Reminder about Lend Me A Tenor at Brentwood Theatre next week Wednesday to Saturday and The Rink at St Mary in the Castle Hastings this week Thursday to Saturday. Eurobeat at Brookside Theatre Romford in July has been cancelled. Titanic Musical is scheduled there Wednesday to Sunday 24 -28 August Sweeney Todd is at Erith Playhouse Monday to Saturday 4 - 9 July

Dir @hannahinlondon & the team have done a spectacular job of allowing this cast of incredible talents to shine" ***** for The Light in the Piazza at @royalacadmusic musicaltheatrereview.com/royal-academy-

Oxford Operatic Society are doing Calendar Girls at the Oxford Playhouse this week (till Saturday) - I went tonight and honestly, it was an amateur production but done to a near-professional level. I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was! And the show itself is very joyful and uplifting, with some lovely songs. If you're in the area, definitely go!

Should have posted about these shows earlier but an honorary mention for two top notch amateur productions I saw yesterday. Matinee was Funny Girl at Cirencester Barn Theatre, then a 110 mile dash for Once at Dunstable Little Theatre fortunately completed in under two hours with no motorway delays. The latter was I believe the UK amateur premiere with a great actor musician cast and unusually these days a full house. Great atmosphere created and the male/female leads in both shows really did offer something for everyone !
Little House Of Horrors opens tomorrow at Cardiff Sophia Gardens and I'll be there. Others currently running or coming up include Oliver at Horley Archway Theatre, Never Never at Hornchurch Queens Theatre next week, in August/September Calamity Jane at Littlehampton, Barnum at Arundel, Titanic at Romford, Big at Dartford, West Side Story at Wakefield, Camelot at Hayling Island, Sunset Boulevard at Folkestone, Man Of La Mancha at Titchfield, My Fair Lady at Worthing, Candide at Blackheath Halls and Bonnie & Clyde at the Bridewell.
I've booked all those except .. La Mancha which I saw at the London Colisseum in 2019 but is one of the few musicals I didn't like and wouldn't revisit.

Hull Truck is playing host to Urinetown next week, from Tuesday 6 to Saturday 10 September.
Then, a few weeks later, from Wednesday 14 to Saturday 17 September, it's the turn of not just Carousel, but a reimagined Carousel It seems Carousel is the R&H property that can be tinkered with. Makes sense, I suppose, if you've got declining demand for the rights.
"Yull never werk alern." (With apologies to Hullians everywhere.)

I think half the country seems to be doing Made in Dagenham or Calendar Girls this year. True. It's always particular shows that are flavour of the month at any one time. Add "Shrek" to the two above.
