I really liked the Somewhere sequence in WSS.

There hasn't been the opportunity for two years to put on a community production so it seems like this is killing two birds with one stone because it also means they don't have to pay out for 10 cast members who don't even speak or have any major role. Isn't it usually the case though that the performers playing the dancers who get cut early also are the understudies for the major roles? That was certainly the case for the Palladium production, which is the only one I've seen. So they won't be saving money because they'll still need to employ professionals as understudies. Unless they intend not to have any understudies, which in these covid times seems an even riskier strategy than normal.

Interesting! I think Carly's great, but what is she like as a dancer? She doesn't do much of it in Anything Goes given the character she plays. Music and the Mirror is such a great piece when done well so fingers crossed she is as good a dancer as she is a singer and actress (and comedienne)!

Not much opportunity to show comic skills as Cassie, she’s a right misery!
The actor playing Gregory Gardner looks a bit young but of course we don’t know how old the headshot is 😏

Prior to Anything Goes she was cast in a lot of dance led roles and in ensembles and of course played Anita in West Side at Curve.

Carly is a wonderful dancer - was a stunning Anita in an otherwise pretty bland WSS at Curve and really got to dance her socks off.
She'll be great in this.

I thought they might try and get a biggish MT name for Sheila as well but I'm sure the actress they cast will be wonderful too.

I wonder how well it will sell, it's not really a big name musical for just the regular joe on the street is it? Or maybe it is known but is seen as too stagey. Plus they haven't cast a star name to draw those people in. But that's a good thing and I'm glad they are doing this musical because a) it's about time and b) it's very fitting for this time, just wondering how popular it will be.

I also think it could have done with some big names in it -it's not an easy sell.
I also find the actor cast as Diana Morales problematic. An explicitly Latina character. Could they not have at least tried to find someone more representative of that ethnic group, that is very much a part of the New York melting pot?

They do quite a few shows at Curve that I wouldn’t mind seeing, but won’t because it’s too much hassle to get there and back on public transport from Wales.
In terms of recognition I only vaguely remember the film being on TV when I was a kid, but even then the only bit I remember is one of the ladies keeps singing “tits and ass!”
Mainly I remember it for the bizarre gory parody from the end of one of The Simpsons Hallowe’en episodes:

I remember it selling it very well in Sheffield 10 ish years ago. I thought it had no household names in but Mother was very excited that some bloke from Heartbeat was was playing Zach.

The production at the world-famous Crucible Theatre, which was actually back in 2003, was also directed by Nikolai Foster.
Jason Durr, rather than Bill Maynard, played Zack, alongside Josefina Gabrielle, Nina French, Rachael Wooding and 'ull's very own Michael Jibson. 🙂
I wonder what happened to them all?

The "full cast" seems to only include 1 swing. I'd be very wary of travelling from a distance to see this if they don't cast some more swings as otherwise the risk of cancellation due to cast illness or injury seems rather high.

How exciting. Btw I believe there is an offer on at the moment where you can get top price tickets for £25, if anyone is interested. tickets hereAlso regarding the comment above about swings, I can count on just one hand the amount of times over the many years I've been going to Curve where a show has been cancelled because of not having enough cover. On the rare instance of a cast issue they haved pulled something out the bag 9 times out of 10 so it can still go ahead.

If I remember correctly, the ran most of their run of Legally Blonde without a Serena, due her needing to pull out of the production just after opening. She was never replaced, they just shared the role out across the other 2 main Delta Nu girls. They are usually pretty good at making sure the show goes ahead if they can!

When I saw West Side Story they had three actors performing script in hand as they were last minute replacements for actors who had come down with the flu.

The link just goes to Curve's website and I couldn't see any offers! Thanks

I'd be concerned with just one!

Thanks It seems the offer has ended I'm afraid but all tickets are below £25 for the preview period anyway if you want to go then for cheaper tickets.

All quite normal and I'm sure it will be fine and If it's not fine they will pull something off to keep it going, as they always do.
