Charlie Stemp moving up to the role of Cornelius, perhaps? Oh no! He's too good as Barnaby!

No he is a Barnaby. Especially seeing him next to a great Cornelius in Gavin Creel.

They could ask Michael Crawford to play Horace - would be a great nod to the film

I think this could happen as a musical but not with Bette. She was on over 250k A WEEK! Maths wouldn’t work out over here for her as the lead. Someone else possibly.

I was always skeptical about this happening in London, but there's no smoke without fire. If it does happen, I would like to lead the campaign for audiences to start an ovation when Dolly struts across the passerelle. It's a quintessential Broadway moment and needs to be acknowledged. I felt very weird seeing "Shall We Dance" two weeks ago without the audience applauding during the orchestral and dance bridge.

You should've been at the performance I was at, there was a LOT of audience hand-clapping during that number!

I found Broadway audiences really variable when I was there. I didn't see Dolly, but at some performances audiences were VERY vocal and very happy clappy in the way I expect American audiences to be. In others they weren't. So much like any other performance it might just have been that particular group.

I’m sure you were the one who slammed any suggestion of this coming over under any circumstances as you are tight with the producers? Has that changed now?

The thing is it's not always about money. there is a prestige that would come with a London Palladium run together with a very good chance at an Olivier award. All performers have egos and this would be a nice thing to add as she enters the latter part of her career.
Not saying it will happen but the money isn't necessarily the only consideration.
Also if Kelli O'Hara can sell the Palladium than Bernadette probably could if they don't bring Bette
A producer friend of mine recently said they have news and they always wanted to produce hello dolly. so who knows

For a short run, Bette would most certainly do it and it would sell.

The producers could afford to pay Bette £250k a week, plus Marylebone/Mayfair apartment and car/driver. If the average ticket cost £200 and the London Palladium seats 2200, then this can gross potentially £3.5m a week. Some of the New York set can be used in the London Palladium, such as Horace Vandergelder hardware shop, the stagecoach, train and the grand staircase can all come over. Hello Dolly with Bette will break box office records and Bette will raise the roof.

Call me crazy but I could see Kylie Minogue as Dolly. She would certainly work that red dress.

Word on the street is that EP has it in the bag 🙂 I hope that I’ve missed the humour in that... I’m sure Elaine Paige is wonderful, but Bette she is not.
