UK season should have been out this autumn but something got in the way of filming...no idea what.
So we should already have our second winner.
The overlap wasn't planned but they can't keep backing up things for a theoretical ideal time

Felt a little underwhelmed with the first episode of Drag Race UK tonight. Didn't get the same feeling as Season 1 and honestly some of these queens are annoying AF and some of them are rough AF, as were some last year but the difference is last year the rough ones still had good personalities. I dunno, it didn't quite hit it for me but of course the season could grow.
I like Laurence so far and for some reason Tayce just cracks me up.
The elimination was a pretty bizarre choice though.

Pretty much share all your opinions and thoughts! It wasn't bad, it was good, but yes there was just something that didn't quite hit right. Certainly potential, bizarre to say that a second season needs to 'find its footing' but thats what it felt like. Perhaps now the UK queens saw the success of he first season and are going in trying to 'edit' themselves which is a big criticism the US queens get. The elimination? Odd.

I totally disagree and thought this was a great first episode but maybe the lackluster season 13 is colouring my opinion of this premiere. Agree about the elimination though, there were far worse looks on that runway for sure and I was really expecting them to go far based on the promos and their apparent notoriety. Thought the winner deserved it though.

There are some very good queens and some very unpolished ones. And a couple of very annoying ones.
I cannot be doing with Ginny Lemon. I don't need a bad Su Pollard tribute act in my life. And Bimini is just too rough to be worthy of a place.
Scotland is well represented by their two queens. The Dennis look was really fun.
Veronica is soooo different out of drag.
A really iconic queen was robbed of a decent run. And I can't help but feel that was done for shock value.
Lawrence is my one to watch. We need a proper plus size winner for once. And she has the polish to pull this off.

I didn’t think Joe Black would go, but I suspect there was a game plan at work there to start relative safe then go from there - and it backfired. I wanted Bimini to go, but credit to her she fought to stay. Joe just sort of sunk to the stage looking like a panto Evil Queen.
Not a fan of Ginny but lots of respect earned for sticking up for Asttina and calling the rest of them out for what was clear jealousy.

Now can we stop with all this "season" business. Its "series" here in the UK. Another of those awful Americanisms we seem to be adopting.

I like using season, it's more specific because otherwise there's no easy way of differentiating an individual series (season) from the series as a whole - it leads to confusion having a series made up of lots of series, how does that make sense?

I agree that a lot of them are dog rough. Veronica Green has the face of a young Dame Hilda Bracket. Ginny Lemon is Elton John crossed with something out of League of Gentlemen. Bimini Bom whatever her name is is a dead ringer for Sharon Needles out of drag Tia Kofi best name in the comp. Totally bored with Laurence Chaney’s insecurity back story already. Two Naomi Smalls wannabes is two too many. Joe Black: never heard of her but I suspect she thought she was golden and all that messing in the lipsync was to cover up not learning the words. Glad she went! the one from Dundee might be one to watch, I admire those who make their own costumes. She was ripping off Trixie Mattel in her entrance look though.

I've got to agree with you. I'm usually very resistant to Americanisms, and I used to include their use of seasons amongst those I disliked. But in these days of the internet and us getting US shows promoted in the UK at almost the same time as the US, shared promotion meant I either had to learn to accept it, or get annoyed over something that didn't actually matter! Before long I realised that it actually makes more sense to use seasons and series as the Americans do for the reasons you've given. I've reached the point where I'd welcome it being adopted more universally in the UK.

I've reached the point where I'd welcome it being adopted more universally in the UK. I've recently come to the same realisation! For a long time, I'd push against 'season' if it was used to describe a UK show but have slowly come to realise the benefit in having a word which specifically covers one "season" of a long running series. Especially when we're talking about Drag Race (itself a US format anyway) where there are so many different different incarnations of the series around the world now, it helps to be able to specify which "Season" of which "Series" we're talking about!! I enjoyed the first episode of Series/Season 2 of the UK Series. I found the current US series very hard to get into - not particularly likeable queens winning a not particularly exciting twist whilst the nicer queens are made to vote against each other for no reason other than to create reality-style drama put a dampener on the season opener for me, so the UK version in contrast felt like a breath of fresh air in its simplicity and the way it just let the queens shine. It does feel overkill that they're running UK and USA at the same time though. I'm already getting confused about which queen is in which series!

A weird elimination again for me. They seem to be getting rid of queens who are clearly quite polished and have more to give whilst people who clearly have no more levels (or any levels) remain.
The Rusical was a car crash but it was funny in parts. Probably the right winner this week and that was pretty much the only good thing about this episode.
Not my fave.

I’m not sure who is editing it but they actually got the name of the lip sync song wrong. And on the topic of the lip sync song, what a dull song to choose with very little room to really take it anywhere. For me it’s probably the worst song choice they’ve ever made.

11 is too many for the rusical...
The eliminated queen was far from being the weakest.
And if you are doing a Surprise Surprise runway theme, why wasn't there at least 1 Cilla Black look?

Especially when you have Sheridan Smith - who’s known for playing Cilla both on screen and on stage - judging. The lipsync was a terrible choice. I assumed the Surprise Surprise Cilla nod was leading to an “Anyone Who had a Heart” lipsync (but using Sheridan’s version). But an incorrectly labelled “Memories”? A shame. As another poster mentioned, the song doesn’t allow for a good lipsync as it doesn’t really go anywhere. Vocally and emotionally it’s a great song and a showstopper, but it’s very limiting and one note as a lipsync. A real shame as it meant we lost another polished queen who I personally really enjoyed in the interview sections.
