Saw the first of only three performances last night, a run truncated due to theatre closures. My first time at this venue, which is very easy to access from London and right next to Windsor Castle. Very good Covid-19 arrangements, with spaced out seating and several entrances depending where in the auditorium you're sitting (the front Stalls entrance was rather hidden around the back of the building). And a clear view from the Stalls due to how they'd staggered the seating.
This is a traditional upper class dark comedy, but presented as a radio play. At the start, Martin Carroll thanked the audience for attending and Bill Kenwright for all the support he's been giving productions during Covid-19. He also doubled up to deliver sound effects in the background (often stealing the attention from the scene) and played the role of the Vicar when the original actor did not attend the "BBC Radio Production".
It is quite a witty play, performed particularly well by Liza Goddard as the lead. Tom Conti, as the other lead, was loved by the audience but not always with perfect comic timing. He also corpsed at one point. And this does feature Charlie Stemp in a small role, where he gets the chance to briefly sing.
It is really a rehearsed reading in another format, but I enjoyed it and it was easy to follow. Running time 1 hour 55 minutes including the interval. There are still a few tickets available for closing night (which unfortunately is tonight).
