He was great in the role when we saw it in Manchester, I just thought he seemed a bit half hearted when he started singing on Sunday He performed it brilliantly on Saturday and played a bit with the audience. He got a huge ovation. Have to admit his Saturday evening performance didn't make me want to see the show any more than their Children in Need performance did. It wasn't an elevated performance compared to some others.

Sorry to be “that person” but what was with the presenters and the cue cards? These people learn lines for a living dont they? It was totally distracting.

Finished watching the concert just now, loved it (overall)!
It was nice to hear different songs (rather than the obvious ones).
The lack of chemistry between Lucy and her Roaul was dreadful, and I still have no desire to see Jamie, Pretty Woman or Matilda on those performances.
Mazz, JOJ, Lexi, Laura, Alice etc were all amazing, you could hear every word. My husband was blown away by Me & the Sky, my daughter loved the performance from SIX!
I cried when my boys came on, Dom & Tom, I miss my job!
I think I may try and find the time to watch a few of those performances again before the streaming ends.
Well done to the guys that had an idea, and Nica for giving them the space to do it!

Sorry to be “that person” again but I don’t think Lucy St Louis was that great either.

I don’t think anything other than a solo MOTN works out of context from Phantom…maybe WYWSHA at a push.

So I watched this tonight. Impressed by Laura Pick as Elphaba, BoM was great and John Owen-Jones is my favourite Valjean, of the 30-40-odd(!!) I've seen around the world. To me, he is absolutely definitive. His Bring Him Home is the best ever.
"All I Ask of You" was a bit of a mess. Raoul very shouty and stiff. Almost bored-sounding. Reminded me of the older fashioned guys they used to cast, like Robert Finlayson and people like that. Except younger, natch. There were also timing issues. No chemistry between the pair whatsoever at this stage, but these concerts often lack in that area.
Decent enough watch, a nice reminder of theatre finally returning. Nothing I'm desperate to see though!

Sorry to be “that person” again but I don’t think Lucy St Louis was that great either. I thought that was a very odd combination. His accent was odd - can't quite place it but it was a bit like Downton Abbey had gone to the theatre , and she sounded like a 30 year old Christine when the drama works far better if Christine is credibly a late teen /young 20s who looks and sounds like someone confused, exploited and afraid - who gathers strength as the story progresses. You don't have to be that age but its better if you look and sound like it- whether you are 17 or 30.

Liked most of it. Zizi can still sustain that accent and kids were good- shame they couldn't use their costumes. JOJ reliably excellent, Alice Fearn great in that role. Jamie was all the better for using one of their female songs. Six was spectacular - just needs the other 40% of the musical written. The Matildas were interesting - were they the cast that was on pre lockdown? They looked older , and very experienced . And older worked well - perhaps younger isn't better in that role? Prince of Eqypt. Mazz and Pretty Woman were other highlights.
Liked the chorus too - sounded good and looked very enthusiastic . A pretty awful thing to have graduated at a time when there was literally no job to go to. And that must be an interesting experience getting to sing with so many of the top names out there- even if it shows what it takes to get those jobs.

Just watching this again. I've sussed why Raoul was so poor - his microphone technique is terrible. He's eating it like a Cornetto. Don't know why I didn't spot it earlier - he needed a lip guard, the way he was using it. It must have felt very unnatural if he has been used to a head mic.

I listened to some recordings of the Raoul from the tour and he was shouty there as well
I just think he is a poor performer

The You Tube stream of this show has now been viewed more than half a million times.
Hopefully will translate into thousands of extra bums on seats in theatres once everything reopens.

Great news. The concert is going to be shown on Sky Arts Sunday 18th July @ 8pm Fantastic! I've just set my recorder. Fingers crossed Sky Arts will behave for me next Sunday, sometimes the signal on my Freeview is so bad it makes things unwatchable.

Did anybody watch this on Sky Arts? Loved the musical numbers, although I did get annoyed at the presenters reading off cue cards - where's the performance in that!

Yes I watched it and really enjoyed it again. I was there for the Saturday matinée performance and this was recorded at the Sunday show. Bearing in mind that the presenters had already done 5 performances before this you would have thought they could have learnt the script by then. Bonnie even got her nieces name wrong when I went which was hilarious.

Yes, I recorded it, and have since watched the first half. (Further to my earlier post, I'm pleased to say that so far the signal has mostly been behaving.) I LOVED the opening number, I thought the lyrics were so clever! If I'd been watching in the theatre I think I would have sat and sobbed all the way through. I'm really enjoying the performances so far, and it's nice to see some of the less well known songs being used - for the shows I've not yet seen, they've had songs I haven't known, rather than the usual ones that get performed on TV. Does anyone know where I could find the lyrics to the opening number?

I don't know how to put pics on here but if you DM me your e mail I can take a pic and send them to you.
