I saw the report of Helen Reddy's death and remembered her from my time at EMI as a Capitol recording artist.
I had no idea she was Australian, but good on her for making such a successful career, mainly in the USA.

Just downloaded "the best of" brought back lots of memories. Used to love her songs when I was younger.

I was shocked to see how few of her songs reached the charts in the UK. Maybe my mum just played her greatest hits cassette constantly, but I thought she'd been quite big in the 70s.

I remember seeing Helen in Blood Brothers the week Princess Diana died. I had gone down to London to sign the book of condolence and managed to do it quicker than I thought, so managed to see Helen in the matinee. It was probably the most emotional i have seen an audience. A brief clip of Helen doing BB.

I saw Helen in Blood Brothers at Liverpool Empire, and astonished my Mum by breaking down completely in tears when she sang "Tell Me It's Not True" at the end. Such a powerful performance. |
