I saw the show twice in Liverpool, the last time there was a show stop about ten minutes before the end, I was front row and I could see that one of the automated pieces containing the rose came to a rather sharp halt and then none of the scenery came out for the fight. The actors carried on for a bit before realising then they stopped the show for twenty minutes, resumed prior to the fight but without that automated piece and then all the scenery came out fine after that so I had wondered if a fail safe might have triggered.
Beast transformation worked as it should both times as well and we saw it in the last week.

Alyn Hawke who has been playing Beast in EK absence has confirmed on Twitter that he will be playing Beast for the remainder of the Edinburgh run which is the 27/11/21.
I’ve just noticed that EK has deleted his Twitter and Instagram accounts….

It's official. From The Stage
"Emmanuel Kojo has left the touring production of Beauty and the Beast and is no longer represented by his agent, several weeks after he was suspended from the show amid allegations of inappropriate language.
Kojo, who starred as Beast in the production, was temporarily removed from the role in October while producer Disney Theatrical Productions carried out an investigation into claims that he made inappropriate comments to a female crew member.
Kojo is now not listed as being part of the cast on the show’s website, with Alyn Hawke, who had been covering the role, listed as Beast.
Disney confirmed to The Stage that Kojo is no longer attached to the production, but made no comment about the status of its investigation into the allegations or the terms of his departure.
He has also parted ways with United Agents, the agency confirmed to The Stage. It declined to comment further."
Sad this has happened but it was obviously serious enough to warrant it x

Hopefully the days are past when this type of thing went on without consequence. Wonder what will happen with Beast now. Alyn covers two other main roles, Gaston and Lumiere. Gavin Lee is missing the entire Cardiff run so presume they will want to make sure there is enough cover in place. With Alyn as Beast currently there is only second covers for Beast, Gaston and Lumiere at the moment and I can’t imagine they will want the second cover to do all of the Cardiff run with no other cover in place…

I'm a bit concerned over the glasses wearing, can anyone whose seen it explain why she is wearing glasses at what looks like the start but not later on?
It looks OK, but just a bit sparse on set and lavishness for a fairytale

It looks OK, but just a bit sparse on set and lavishness for a fairytale Because in this production, she wears glasses when she reads. I´m not a fan of this new staging. The costumes, sets, and especially orchestrations are nowhere near the originals.

That's a little eyerolling to be honest, wearing glasses to be 'booky' and then not wearing then rest of the time or when 'beautiful'. Such an old stereotype, bit disappointing for a production trying to be more progressive

Such an old stereotype, bit disappointing for a production trying to be more progressive Well that’s the whole point of reading glasses isn’t it - only wear them when reading! And she looks just as beautiful when wearing them. I think giving a Disney princess reading glasses is very progressive as it’s never happened before so……

Such an old stereotype, bit disappointing for a production trying to be more progressive It’s just glasses. Loads of people wear reading glasses. Less of a stereotype and more of a reality for a lot of people so why not work it into a character who famously reads a lot of books.

As someone whose always worn glasses you get fed up always seeing glasses used as a gimmick to fit a certain stereotype. Considering people in glasses can be told they're less attractive (not an overreaction, I and others I know have had it said to then before) it would be nicer if their going to have glasses to have her wear them all the time. Not just during the bookish scenes.
The word 'concerned' obviously refers to the video in question not life in general. Good to see this forum is as welcoming and open minded on discussion as always though

Not sure a peasant girl in 18th century France would have glasses but then I suppose most peasants in the 18th century weren't avid readers either...

Have they added a scene where she goes for laser surgery to correct her vision? Sounds ghastly if they do.
Or perhaps she discovers contact lenses by the end of the opening number?

Love that people think the most unusual part of the story is that she sometimes does/doesn't wear glasses, not that there's a sentient teapot and a sexy duster trapped in a cursed castle.

There's nothing wrong with a leading lady wearing glasses. I just think in this particular setting it's a little incongruous, that's all.

This sort of popular musical theatre is full of stereotypes! They get the story told quicker, set things up in a way that people can understand a whole lot easier. Is this the ‘nuance’ that people seem desperate for all of a sudden? It’s Disney…only a hairs breadth away from panto!
Girl wears glasses in the first few scenes to show us that she enjoys reading, is educationally inquisitive etc, then two scenes in is being lusted after by the towns alpha male. The specs come off just so that we understand why. 🙄

I do like the overall design of the show in this video though, better than I originally thought, but yes the Beast is conspicuously absent.

I do like the overall design of the show in this video though, better than I originally thought, but yes the Beast is conspicuously absent. When they filmed the trailer Emmanuel Kojo was still Beast and he’s now left the production so there will be footage that can’t be used. Has anyone heard whether they are getting a new beast in? Alyn Hawke has been covering it. For the Cardiff run Gavin Lee is not performing and Sam Murphy is playing lumiere which means that with Alyn and Sam out of the ensemble. Only 3 male swings and 2 on for duration of Cardif run means cover is short…..

Haven’t heard anything. Shame Gavin is not doing Cardiff - I was looking forward to seeing him! What’s he up to instead?
