I dont think ive ever seen a black Judas personally. Granted I've only seen 3 or 4 productions. This production is a 'gig' inspired production Think Glastonbury, I've been told.

(Sounds like hell to me...) I agree with ali that there doesn't seem to be a specific vibe from what little marketing there's been. (Or maybe there is but it's passed me by, or I'm not excited by it.) I am looking forward to seeing a show I love but am more concerned about the likelihood of rain than I am about anything else.

Declan is in his mid thirties. I think he'll look fine age wise. And I can see him bring something special to a gig-inspired production. I'm looking forward to seeing him.

According to the Regent's Park Theatre website he's Judas.
(I wonder if he was Annas, and then found himself promoted, after the original left... The casting announcement is quite late in the day really, isn't it?)

Regents park can be a bit late with their casting but you could be right. I thought they might have gone for a bigger musical theatre name for judas

The casting for this was really heavy on having non-MT performers, in fact I think a phrase that was used was "boho/grunge" so I guess that ties in with a more concert style approach, and unknown performers (bar Thaxton, Huntley and definitely a few MT performers in the ensemble!).

Interestingly, I think the understudy for Judas in the original London production was always the chap who played Annas! Come on then... Spill!

If the Judas left at the last minute I wonder why they did not cast Tim Rogers who had been playing it in the UK tour and obviously could have just stepped into the role.

Well... I make the question... Anyone know who was the original Judas in this production? Just curiosity

Well that did not take very long. Ramin is actually here for a one night performance in Kinky Boots.

No need to be snarky. Its a role he wants to play, he likes limited runs, he is back after a time away and is a 'theatre name'. Was just a guess

Are the ticket prices for this a bit steep for the Regents Park Theatre or is it my imagination. I don't remember paying as much for other stuff there although I might be wrong. Don't really want to pay those prices especially for a gig/grunge production!

Especially as it's going to be semi staged. Which I assume from the "gig" reference. No costumes, no sets, that's £65 please.

We're still waiting for mrmusicals to fill us in with the identity of the Judas that betrayed this production and walked. Or was he pushed?
Re the gig/grunge approach : this is hardly a new take. I mean, that appalling arena version was grunged up to the hilt. And the show's been gigged all over the world. That said, I can't wait to see it!

Does anyone have any idea what time the matinee is likely to finish?? I've booked for Saturday 23rd and I need to arrange trains. Can't see anything about the running time on the website!

I was there. Thought the cast was very good. Not totally sure about the production. I usually like Drew McOnie's choreography but I felt there was too much of it in there. It was almost a bit distracting at times. Declan is very "folksy" as Jesus which works for me. Adored his Gethsemane. Tyrone is a great Judas in my opinion. Especially loved David's Pilate too. It's definitely a very gig-like production. I felt like I was watching a concert and not a musical at times. The characters sometimes appeared a bit disconnected to me - the acting was good but due to the concert-like staging I was missing interaction between the characters during some songs.
Overall I enjoyed it for what it is. However, so much glitter. I've never seen such a glittery JCS in my life!
