How do audio described performances work? Looks like it is supposed to happen on the day I am going and I am not sure what to expect.

Quite interested to see Chris Jacobsen as Pilate I have to say (he only joined the cast recently). According to the programme, there is no Pilate in the cast. And neither a Peter nor a third Apostle woman. I couldn't even find information about the band in there as I was wondering whether or not there even is one and if so, how big it is. Also, the production shots in the programme (8€...) seemed to be from last year's UK tour. Out of interest: Is it the same Christopher Jacobsen who understudied Alfie Boe in Les Mis and whom I happened to see as Valjean as Mr Boe was off? Yes, that's the one. I saw him as Valjean too and was impressed. He said he's playing Pilate so I'm taking his word for it. :-) Back stalls at the Coloseum Theatre in Essen are horrendous. Not worth the money (think they are charging around 45€ for back stalls in Essen). They are selling outer end stalls seats for 71€ which is still more than what I paid for a second row centre seat in Leeds. I might just make it an on the day decision.

Usually headsets are given to people who ask for them which provide descriptions of what's going on. Very unobtrusive, unless you're sitting right next to someone who has it turned up super loud.

It's not selling too well so far so I might just chance it and see if any offers pop up soon - not counting on it though as we hardly ever get proper discounts over here for touring productions. My row was almost empty, but apart from that it looked pretty much sold out. Not bad for a Tuesday Evening show. Result! Easter Special showed up via Eventim. Only valid for at least 2 tickets (the never ending "discrimination" of the single theatregoer) but at 43,50€ for second row stalls it was easy to find someone to come along. :-)

So, I saw the tour last night and had a good evening. I'd already seen the production in Leeds last year so knew what to expect. Glenn Carter isn't a bad Jesus even though he simply looks to old to play a man in his 30s. I'm not a fan of Tim Oxbrow's voice (its tone just isn't for me) but generally he was fine as Judas. Biggest highlights of the show were Alistair Lee's Annas and Chris Jacobsen's Pilate. Chris especially stole the show for me both with his voice and his acting choices. I still think this production overdoes the crucifixion scene - it goes on forever! Not a fan of the resurrection at the end either. But generally I enjoyed seeing the show again. And I just love the score. Really looking forward to the Open Air production now.
On a side note: The German "narrative" on screens throughout the show was beyond awful. If I had to depend on that to understand the show I'd have been lost.

Can anyone tell me what happened to Christopher Jacobsen's hand?

He looked like some parts of his body were paralysed. Hoped someone would say that's just temporary or so...

I'm contemplating getting a ticket for the JCS tour here in Germany. They're doing a week in Essen which isn't far from my workplace. I saw this production in Leeds last year and thought it was quite good apart from a few strange directing choices. Quite interested to see Chris Jacobsen as Pilate I have to say (he only joined the cast recently). However, the prices are putting me off. No decent cheaper seats and not sure I'm willing to pay 80 Euros for a production I have already seen. It's not selling too well so far so I might just chance it and see if any offers pop up soon - not counting on it though as we hardly ever get proper discounts over here for touring productions.

I wasn't a fan of Judas either. - his voice has a kind of " I am a villain" tone but I did like Jesus and felt the raw emotion of what dying by crucifixion might be like - and it only last three to four minutes. As a practising Christian I have to say I did like the resurrection at the end

Glad it was better sold on other days. Got half price tickets in second row through an offer which was perfect. :-)

Thanks for the heads-up. No bar code here, so desperate was I to see Caiaphas again! Should I contact them before I go or do they sort me out on the night after I've queued with my printed "tickets"?

Or go to one of the box office staff who will also exchange your tickets!

Oh good. I've only seen Tyrone Huntley in one thing. Will look forward to see him in this.

David Thaxton is really having a sad career

Hmm was hoping for some more exciting theatre names, aside David Thaxton I've not heard of any of them. Still I'm sure they will be great

I'd imagine because since his olivier win he really hasn't broken out into any other lead roles. He has kind of vanished,

David Thaxton is really having a sad career Sorry - but this is a ridiculous comment.
He concentrates most of the time on working with his band Divisions Real and teaching with W1 Workshops with his wife. I believe that this is a choice he made (to work on his own music) and the word "sad" is just unnecessary and impolite.

You're right, I'm sorry, I've actually been impolite. I'd love him to play all the great roles he and his talent deserves, but if he wants to focus on him music I wish him all the best.

For me seeing Thaxton has been cast makes me want to go. I can also say his W1 Workshops are excellent, my daughter has been to loads of them

David was great in Passion and somehow made Raoul in Love Never Dies pretty great. Pilate does seem like a step down for him.
I feel that casting a black Judas has become just a boring institutionalized casting choice for the role. God forbid should they blind cast Jesus and cast a black guy-or shock gasp-a brown guy.
Overall it's boring and uninspired. I'm not getting a specific vibe from this production. The Lyceum and recent Arena version both had a vision and vibe that came across even from their basic marketing and communication, but I'm having difficulty picking anything up from this version.

I dont think ive ever seen a black Judas personally. Granted I've only seen 3 or 4 productions.
This production is a 'gig' inspired production

Judas is black in the film... I've seen a black Jesus in concert- Ray Shell at the Barbican a long while back. Mary Magdalene was black in the first tour. Celina Duncan. And Caiaphas and Annas were always black in the original London production. Black. Brown. White. I don't care really in this show.
The chap they've got for Jesus this time looks a bit too old next to the others. (Not that this is unheard of: Glenn Carter looks like everyone else's dad in the most recent touring production.) Now this grates with me more than the colour thing...
