It was just perfect at the Palace in 2015, I'm sorry to miss it, Joanna Riding as Charlotte delivered one of the funniest performances I have ever seen. Janie Dee was a great Desiree too.

I wasn't planning on seeing any theatre any time soon and perhaps not at all this year but this might convince me to do it (though I think it's a shame to perform such a lush score with such a small orchestra).

I didn't enjoy Carr's orchestrations for this. Strange as I loved Sunday and Candide and I wonder what they will sound like outside.
But still a performance that's going ahead - hurrah. Plus I love Riding snd Dee.
Will getting tickets for this be like fighting for the last the pasty in Greggs?

I wasn't planning on seeing any theatre any time soon and perhaps not at all this year but this might convince me to do it (though I think it's a shame to perform such a lush score with such a small orchestra). Some of the beauty of Sondhiem's musical work is that it can translate between chamber and full scale easily. ALNM at Storyhouse in Chester a few years ago featured a chamber orchestra of less than 8 and it sounded phenomenal. |

The first concert OHP did recently sold out to members before public booking opened, according to their Twitter.
I can't get to Holland Park in the current circumstances so I'm glad I saw the 2015 concert with some of the same cast as it makes me a bit less annoyed to be missing this one. (And I'm still regretting that Opera North had to cancel their production.)

YES. One of my favourite Sondheims. Definitely want to see this, especially as we didn't get any Opera Holland Park this year. I sadly missed the concert at the Palace as I couldn't make the date.
I'd really like a full-scale revival of this, though, when things get back to normal.

Am going to a couple of their opera things next Fri and Sat (yes, I'm booking for everything I can get my hands on...) so can report back on the general experience. Sounds like it will be lovely, especially if the weather holds out. Timings are a bit early - 6pm-730pm - so will have to sneak off from work earlier on Fri - the benefit of a near empty office is that no one is there to see me do it, I guess! |

I am guessing that as there are only 200 seats by the time the members have booked at 10am there will be nothing left by lunchtime when general seats go on sale. |

They held back 50 seats for public booking for the opera things so you have to be pretty speedy.

Anyone know if they are catering for solo attendees? If it's the same as the two events I've booked for next weekend, they aren't 'bubbling up' - each seat is bookable by anyone with no restrictions. Presumably they are all 1m+ apart (or they may have decided that's not needed out of doors but seems unlikely at this stage of opening up). |

My understanding is that it's not fixed seating so is all being sold as single seats - at least 1.5 metres apart - and then a party would be able move their seats together, though still keeping a distance from other audience members. It's not taking place in the usual theatre - which is only ever a temporary structure - rather it's in front of Holland House in the open air - with the performers under an awning. Is one role considered to be 'better' than the other? Janie Dee is one of the producers, so I suppose there could be two scenarios. Either she claims the best part for herself, or she's happy to take more of a backseat and concentrate on the business side of things.
Just a thought, nothing else.

Janie will be Desiree and Jo Charlotte - 100% agree that Jo gave one of the funniest performances I've ever seen as Charlotte in the 2015 concert 😂😂
