I’m not too surprised Sky have decided to make Sky Arts FTA, not only does it expand its reach but with BBC Four becoming more of an archive channel, it’s filing a gap nicely. Sadly I think it means that Challenge will likely leave Freeview
At risk of sounding ungrateful - will it be an HD channel?
It'll be SD only, keeping the HD service for Sky subscribers to encourage you to pay...
Thanks.
Alas, I live in flats in a conservation area, so it's nigh on impossible to get a Sky dish. I know other options are available, and I probably could upgrade my NowTV account to HD to get it, but I like being able to record. I suppose that's supposed to be another thing to tempt me to sign up properly.
Sky say it’s being launched today but I don’t know if different transmitters turn it on at different times, so try later - it should work even if you’ve got an old box or TV set.
I retuned to get Sky Arts. Saw a documentary of Faberge which from the day-glo colours and fuzzy focus looked as if it had been made in 1980. I shall persist as I believe they have the rights to "Inside The Actors Studio" which is so bad it's good.
Smell it. Touch it. Kiss it. Kiss it! It's the mother lode...
We watched the best Saturday night telly for months last night - Queen at Wembley, Stones in Hyde Park followed by Madness documentary. Will definitely keep an eye on future offerings.
I'm a firm believer in not having to play the hand you're dealt
Les Mis 25th anniversary concert on tonight at 19.10
I retuned my box and recorder for this, looking forward to it. Great to have theatre shows on Freeview, hope it's the start of many!
I give them their Bible and I'm pointing and saying, look! Philippians 4:6 - Be anxious for nothing. Be anxious for nothing. And that's how we started speaking the same language.
Madam Butterfly from Covent Garden was a nice way to spend a Sunday morning. I'd no intention of watching it all, but she managed to hold my attention for 2+1/2 hours.
You really notice how shouty Les Mis is when it's done in concert form. Norm Lewis really made you want Javert to come out on top for once. Alfie even more dead behind the eyes than ever in this format.
The South Bank Awards will be broadcast at 8pm on Sunday 20 December. I don't want to give the game away, but a certain world-famous theatre is one of the winners. 😉 It's so good at what it does, it was actually competing against itself!
Interested in theatres as much as theatre, and business as much as show!

We've got our Christmas TV guide already, and I think my recorder is going to be permanently set to Sky Arts - so far I've found Jesus Christ Superstar, Cats, Miss Saigon and Billy Elliot!
