If Angela Lansbury cannot do it and I feel she can as pointed out the role is very slight, then maybe Maureen Lipman.
But still great casting is needed, I know many people who could play the role well, but a few who could shift tickets.

I think My Fair Lady would be easier to sell tickets for than Chess, regardless of who was in it.
I really hope the accents are done well (they should be, given the show!) if they go for the traditional cockney to RP.

It's a sensible show choice for the summer run at the Coli, and has some of the best roles in musical theatre.
I think we are likely to see names the public recognise for Doolittle and Mrs Higgins, and then theatre people for Eliza and Higgins.
The suggestion a few pages back of Bradley Walsh for Doolittle would actually be quite fun I think

I know he isn't really well known outside of MT but Alexander Hansen would make a great Higgins.

I’ve been listening to the recording of the Broadway production and watching online videos. The accents in the Ascot scene really grates for me when they all constantly sing “Ascit” with IT on the end, I’ve never heard anyone ever referring to “AscIT”, or have I missed something? I thought they had voice and language coaches to help with this kind of thing?

Interesting you should mention that as I remember an interview a while back when Elaine Paige was talking to Diana Rigg about the show and mentioned the exact same thing. Elaine had been to see the show the night before and noticed how they pronounced Ascot. She asked why and Diana Rigg said that she wasn't aware of it it and was going to investigate

I've certainly heard both as-cott and as-cuut (which is I guess similar to ascit?) in Britain, no clue if one is 'correct', but I don't think it's exclusive to this production (though the less said about the accents in the Broadway production generally, the better)

I wouldn't have let anyone on stage doing the attempt at a Cockney twang that Laura Benanti tried!

I think it might be an attempt at copying a very clipped English accent — think "Asc't".
But perhaps not understanding how the sound is made, they've swapped the vowel for an "i" rather than clipping it.

That’s what they’ve done , Esc’t is no doubt the aim, but they don’t come anywhere near any sound heard in upper class English . A massive fail for the language coach

My Fair Lady is due to begin performances in less than three months. Any idea of when we can expect a casting announcement?

Harry Hadden transferring & Vanessa Redgrave as Mrs Higgins. At first glance I thought this said Vanessa Hudgens as Eliza.

Harry Hadden transferring & Vanessa Redgrave as Mrs Higgins. Is this official? This isn't official. However, rumours were circulating that the cast would be as follows: someone who is acting royalty, a returning face and a BIPOC Eliza. My guess was Vanessa Redgrave, Harry Hadden and Lucy St Louis (Not sure if this user is guessing too). Nothing has been announced yet.

Do wish that they weren't going back to the age gap between Higgins and Eliza but if we do have to go back to the old way, she's a perfect choice.
