Well this has made me really excited - been dying to see this and the coliseum will be a lovely home for this production.
Also without trying to sound over PC - I’d personally feel a little uncomfortable if it was a black/non-white Eliza being told by a white Higgins “learn to speak properly!” There’s something about that that just doesn’t sit right with me.
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Amara and also think Lucy would be great Elizas but there’s something which would feel a little off especially if they fall in love in the end.
Celinde is still my first choice for Eliza and I reckon Katie Hall would be a great shout too. Perhaps Lindsay Duncan for Mrs Higgins? Or Felicity Kendall after her brilliant performance in Anything Goes?

Unless they keep with the way they cast it on Broadway and do cast someone who's almost 40... They shouldn't. I didnt see Lauren Ambrose, but Laura Benanti was woefully miscast. Amara Okere is a great choice, or Lucy St Louis if she leaves Phantom. I wouldn't mind if they just cast a recent grad, as long as they can both sing it and do the accents! I saw Lauren Ambrose and thought she was spectacular so I certainly think the age thing works!

Emma Williams would be a lovely choice... Emma would be wonderful but she’s a bit of a vanilla choice. Explain?

Given current casting trends at ENO, we should probably prepare ourselves for Les Dennis as Doolittle and Mr Ball being miscast as Higgins...

But if this is a transfer in the vain of King and I, rather than an ENO production, I think we'll be ok (Michael was the reason they did hairspray after all, and Les was a last minute replacement for Paul Merton as he'd done it before)

What about a Strallen? Or are Summer and Scarlet too old?

What about Cassidy Janson ? It could tie in nicely timing wise for her and would be very different from & Juliet!

What about Cassidy Janson ? It could tie in nicely timing wise for her and would be very different from & Juliet! With no disrespect to Ms Janson (who I think is great), she falls into the slightly older age category that just isn't right for Eliza (and she's conversely too young for Mrs Higgins!). Eliza's naivety is part of the story and it reads so much better when she is played younger in my view. Not too young, but younger.

I agree, I think it works better when Eliza reads as 25-30 really. It also needs to be someone who can sing the soprano parts, which I don't think Cassidy would be able to do. What's Danielle Hope up to? She's always had a great likeability and her voice is gorgeous.

I'd be happy to do it. Just dub my singing, Singin' in the Rain style and we're good to go!

I always wanted to be Eliza. However, given my advanced years and girth, I would now be better off as Mrs Pearce!

Ms Elaine Paige always said to play Eliza would be her dream role, unfortunately she is still way too young.
Zizi Strallen would be a great Eliza, but still you would need another to sell tickets.

It will be "non-traditional" casting, is my guess. You heard it here first, folks.

How about Danielle Hope as Eliza?
Or CHF could take a month off Cinderella? (I know…I know…don’t come for me 😂)

She would be perfect! And since your the oracle of west end updates, would you know when it would transfer in summer? Similar time to hairspray opening June?

It will be "non-traditional" casting, is my guess. You heard it here first, folks. Lucy St. Louis is my prediction. Producers love to strike while the iron is hot and play follow the leader. They'll look at her as having 'broken boundaries' by doing Phantom, and want to bring all that lovely attention their way too. Helps that she's a fine actress with a lovely voice. I can see Lucy doing this, for sure. As the poster above says, Amara Okereke is another possibility too, her Cosette was quite decent - not a favourite but absolutely fine - and she will have only improved in the meantime through seasoning and further development. Definitely one to watch.
