Any clip online of Eliza singing? There's the official trailer they released the other week. Some short clips in that

Sadly I do agree with the comments about the sound level and the orchestra - I really enjoyed MFL, but with my only previous trip to a production with a big orchestra being Sunset Boulevard also at the Coliseum, I was hoping/expecting to be swept up in the stirring overture and orchestral moments during the show. Sadly that didn’t happen - either because it was too quiet, or because the score wasn’t as good, or a combination of the two factors. It’s still a good show though and really pleased I had the chance to see it given its a classic musical and one I’d not seen before. Did Sunset Boulevard sound ok?

Incredible. Just the overture was worth the ticket price alone!

Can confirm that hearing the car chase into the Sunset theme played by a 41 piece orchestra was worth the £105 I paid for a 3rd row stalls seat 🤪

Did Sunset Boulevard sound ok? It was the business, honestly. Then I really don't understand how they've gone wrong here. Maybe a board member with some sound design insight can chip in? Would be interesting! To me it felt as though they'd arrived at the theatre and run the show and gone "Christ it's all a bit echoey in here can we have another theatre?" "Nope" "Oh well let's just turn everything down a lot!" Such a shame especially given how beautiful Okereke's vocals are and how full the pit was!

Saw this yesterday bravo to the cast member who covered the role of Freddie, delivered a solid vocal performance. He received one if not the greatest applause of the night.
Okereke was good but she does tend to shout her way too much through Act 2, were a degree of decorum would be expected after being transformed into a Lady. May be a directorial decision?

Could the sound issue have anything to do with the orchestra being in the pit whereas for Chess, Sweeney Todd and Sunset Boulevard they were in the stage?

So whoever did Sunset probably didn’t do this show.

This production is currently touring the US so you'd thought they'd have the sound design would be perfected by now but I suspect it's an issue with the Coliseum rather than the show itself.

The orchestration they´re using (the originals by Robert Russell Bennett) were concieved to be played without microphoning any instruments, and they sound beautiful that way. However, it seems they´re mixing the instruments to mimic the LCT revival. The trumpets, for example, stand out the same way they did in the 2018 album (too much, in my opinion). Same for the strings, they´re not as lush as in other productions of the show. Would it be better with the Coli´s natural accoustics? Or is this a bigger issue altogether?

The usual Freddy is dreadful so you dodged a bullet there. Was Vanessa in?

Let’s hope Vanessa is ok. 8 shows a week in a 3 hour show is a tough gig at 85! I’m equally impressed by Petula Clark still going strong in Mary Poppins.
