This isn't official. However, rumours were circulating that the cast would be as follows: someone who is acting royalty, a returning face and a BIPOC Eliza. My guess was Vanessa Redgrave, Harry Hadden and Lucy St Louis (Not sure if this user is guessing too). Nothing has been announced yet. Baz announced it as official now. It was never a guess my info was correct too Those announcements came so soon after my post! Yes, you were right and I'm glad you were. Thrilled with Redgrave being cast.

Vanessa Redgrave is old enough to be HHP's grandmother...
The Alfred P Doolittle casting will be interesting. So much of the energy of the show comes from his two big numbers

Vanessa Redgrave didn't sound great in her voiceovers on the latest series of Call the Midwife. Not sure how she'll fare as Mrs Higgins.
Shame really, I'd quite like to see Amara Okere as Eliza, but I didn't like enough about this production on Broadway to pay good money for it, so I'll be waiting for the reviews for Redgrave to see if I bother with this.

I'm somewhat surprised by Vanessa Redgrave, it doesn't strike me as one of her usual projects, but it will be great to see her

I don't disagree. I'll be honest, she seemed to be struggling a little when I saw her in The Inheritance; had to be helped when moving, searching for her lines, etc. But it's the Vanessa Redgrave. We should be thankful she is still performing. This may very well be one of her last theatre credits.

Rosemary Harris played Harry's mother on Broadway aged 91 and she was perfectly fine...Vanessa will be fine.

Amara is such a talent! I've never been into MFL - but that's sold it for me.

Don't know if this is known, but it is touring straight after the Coli run. Suspect the cast won't be the same though.

I saw her as Cosette and thought she was fine. Nothing special, just a generic Cosette really - she didn't do much. Will be great to see her spread her wings and hopefully shine in this. I hope she is up to it, it's a huge step up for her.

She was great as Wendla in Spring Awakening at the Almeida (great production of a super average musical and she really shone)

I saw her as Cosette and it was the only time I was interested in that character at all. She gave a brilliant performance, which made me go look at the program and memorise the name. That's how I recognised her name when she was announced for Spring Awakening - in which she also did a terrific job. I am very happy with this casting.

She was great in Spring Awakening and I loved her in The Boy Friend too. She's definitely made me much more interested in this production which I was sort of okay with giving a miss before now.

She was great as Wendla in Spring Awakening at the Almeida (great production of a super average musical and she really shone) Am I right in thinking though that was a supporting part in an ensemble musical? I didn't enjoy SA when I saw it, and have blanked most of it from memory. Either way, it's a massive step up from playing a large ensemble part in the 325 seater Almeida to carrying an iconic show at the 2400 seater Coliseum. Not only does Eliza spend the majority of a longish show on stage, she goes through a real "journey" each performance, with some very tricky singing. They must think she is ready and good enough for such a huge task - it really is a massive show of faith in an inexperienced performer with just four professional credits.

Wendla is...the leading female in Spring Awakening so she's lead a show. Yes at the Almeida but she's got a cracking voice.
I didn't like the show as I didn't think it gave anyone in it much to act with, but I think she'll do well.

Interestingly Julie Andrews too landed the role of Eliza after having played the lead in The Boy Friend.

The name didn't ring any bells until someone mentioned The Boyfriend. She was so good in it. I sat next to her mother a short while ago at Pippin and we had a lovely chat all about her. Her mum is involved with the National Youth Theatre.

Amara’s .mum is a doctor. She could also be involved in the NYT unless the woman I spoke to made it up. I just tend to believe what people tell me.

I've done a little research, and Dr Ebere Okereke is a trustee (director) of the National Youth Music Theatre. nymt.org.uk/about/meet-the-team/She's also a world-renowned expert on public health. Anyway, back to MFL...

Well my wish came true with Dame Vanessa, has she done a musical before? The Dame still has amazing stage presence and I’m super excited to see her do this.
I initially thought Amara might be a bit too young for Eliza but now that it’s announced, I’m totally thrilled for her. It does nkw beg the question what happens with Spring Awakening should the Almeida really transfer into the West End? Ahhh, I’m so glad I’ve booked a prime seat for June - this production looks GORGEOUS

Vanessa played Madame Armfeldt in a concert of A Little Night Music with her daughter Natasha Richardson in NY in the 00s and was in the film of Camelot but otherwise I don't think so I think she also did Threepeny Opera in 1972, which might not be a musical but she sang in it. Coincidentally, that A Little Night Music concert at Studio 54 in 2009 has arguably one of the most impressive cast ever assembled for a musical, it included Natasha Richardson (Desiree), Vanessa Redgrave (Madame Armfeldt), Victor Garber (Frderik), Christine Baranski (Charlotte), Steven Pasquale (Henrik) and Benjamin Walker (Frid)
