(Trying to do this in my best Australian accent) Strueth! Looks like you may need to put your thongs (that's flip flops to you Brits) on because according to this article, that shelia Muriel is coming to London. When you're in the venue, the dunnies (that the toilets) are at the back of the theatre. www.westendtheatre.com/46946/shows-coming-soon/muriels-wedding-the-musical/As a proud Australian, personally, I am thrilled! Everyone I know from home who have seen it have raved about how fun and great it is. Frustratingly, every time I've been home to visit, it had either just left or was playing in another city so I've never seen it. The closest I got was grabbling a handful of flyers, which I am now selling on eBay. I am, of course, familiar with the film and I have the cast recording of the show. I am old enough to remember originally seeing it at the movies. At the time it was one of the three big time Australian stand out films, along with Strictly Ballroom and Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Coincidently, despite having an accent, imine was never actually that strong. Some of the accents of my immediate cousins are much stronger than mine. And I am now into my 17th year here so, to be fair, I guess to a certain extent, it's been a little bastardised. Some people I meet get it straight away and others have no idea. So, what can I say, dig out your ABBA flares, put on your overalls (that dungarees) and have a flaming good time! Lol! Looking forward to it. Final words: you're terrible Muriel!

First thing i'll say is this is not a reliable source, and is all clickbait to try and get you to sign up to mailing lists. The same pages exist for Summer, The Cher Show, Tootsie, King Kong, The Devil Wears Prada, Jagged Little Pill, Mrs. Doubtfire, Finding Neverland etc etc...
What I can say about Muriel's Wedding though is it's an exceptional musical and would be perfect in a "post pandemic" West End - it is feel-good fun but also has a lot of heart, and an absolutely cracking score. Very lucky to have seen it twice in Sydney.

I will be so pleased if this does happen- I loved the film and I saw the making of the musical documentary a while ago and it looked great!

I will also be really pleased to see this in London. Love the CD.
Much like Aida though, it's been rumoured on and off forever - so I won't hold my breath until the day booking opens!

This is right at the top of my Wishlist so I really hope it's true! Can see it doing really well in London in the right (small) venue!

Not too small though - the physical production from the Australia productions is actually quite big (along with some audience members invited on-stage for the wedding!)

Those clips are great!
How wonderful to see my home city reflected on stage like that. As I may have mentioned, despite not as yet seeing the show, I have the cast recording so am familiar with the songs.
Looks like lots of fun.
I can't wait!
**Useless bit of trivia, for those who weren't aware, the idea behind the design of the Opera House came from dissecting an orange and the shells are supposed to reflect sails on the ocean**
For any other useless bit of trivia about Sydney, I'm your man.

I believe it has been on that site and a couple of others for a couple of years and they just change the date. I think it's likely to come over at some point as Australian musicals have proven to do well, also it's proven that anything with a bit of ABBA in sells well. Really love the score so hope it comes over, just until I've heard something from a more reliable source I'm taking it with a pinch of salt.

Read this yesterday...
Global Creatures will present a developmental workshop reading of Muriel’s Wedding the Musical August 15 - September 16 in New York City. Casting for the workshop is underway currently. Original music for Muriel’s Wedding The Musical is being written by Kate Miller-Heidke and Keir Nuttall. Plans for the US premiere will be announced later this year.
So like like the US will get a reworked version before us.

Aussie humour is far more similar to UK humour than it is US humour so I'm not sure I'd want to see a US-inspired version of Muriel. The very last thing I want to have to say it "You're terrible, Muriel..."

Glad it’s back in business, because it’s SUCH a good show. Hope it reaches our shores eventually.

Just because the development workshops are happening in New York doesn't necessarily mean it'll debut in New York.
I imagine a few of the jokes would have be changed as some of them are very Aussie centric like the Alan Jones reference in the song Sydney.

He's a Conservative broadcaster similar to the likes of Katie Hopkins, Dan Wootton etc

Love the score for this show, it’s crazy how it’s restricted digitally to Australia.
I really hope we get it’s original score & it does grace London at some point!

The score for this is brilliant, and laugh out loud funny.
Not sure why it needs workshopping and reworking considering it was a big hit in Oz, but I just hope we get it sometime very soon.

The workshops of this are happening at the moment in New York. Being a massive nerd, I noticed they'd changed the girl in the artwork very slightly. She has darker skin and a fringe now! http://instagram.com/p/ChVmZDhv7i_

Usually after a workshop they start to work with any interested producers to continue shaping up the show for a full production, when they have a suitable theatre/star/etc they announce it's happening. As far as I have seen, nothing has been announced, but the fact it was workshopped in NY suggests they are hoping it will open there. I would love to hear a recording of the new version.
