Donmar having an auction for Tom Hiddleston’s Coriolanus leather armour. Not at all sure about this. But there you go.

I told Mrs Laird about my post. She said with lockdown hair you look more like Deborah Findlay than Hiddlestone.

Are his very tight trousers also on sale? Or what mum called his "Lady Di see-through tunic"?

Unusual for theatre, but they obviously need the money and don’t need the costume any more.
It’s more common in the film world to sell this kind of stuff. Usually to serious collectors of memorabilia or museums, rather than individual fans.
I don’t think it’s creepy. I’ve been to plenty of exhibits and museums that had film costumes and props - even restaurants like Planet Hollywood! Got to hold and pose for a photo with an Oscar at Universal Studios.
If there’s people with the money to buy it and it helps keep the Donmar running then why not?

I would say it's a great idea as a way of raising not only money but also saving money - so many theatres may well have a fair amount of stuff in storage, if they can sell some on then that's cash towards holding on and they might be able to cut down on rented storage space so find a financial saving.

Aren’t most theatre costumes rented? I know The National re-use and rent theirs out to other productions and films, etc. So there’s probably not huge stores of costumes at most theatres.
I actually wonder if Hiddleston had been given it as a souvenir of the production, and has offered it up for sale. He’ll be familiar with the movie memorabilia market from the ComicCon circuit - he’s been doing quite a few of them in the past couple of years and they’re obviously a nice little earner.

Oh God.
Thankfully leather is wipe-clean.

Are his very tight trousers also on sale? Or what mum called his "Lady Di see-through tunic"? I was watching Coriolanus last night and when he appeared in the tunic I started giggling, thinking of this post. But... At least I could wear the tunic, what on earth would I do with the armour?! Joking aside, I see nothing unusual about the auction: this sort of memorabilia gets sold often (as someone already pointed out, perhaps more in the world of films, than in theatre), and right now Donmar needs all the money it can get, so it is capitalising on having had a full-fledged celebrity among the cast. In practical terms, I absolutely wouldn't mind owning a piece of memorabilia from some of the shows that left a lasting impression on me, although an auction implies that the final price might be slightly unreasonable by my standards.

At least I could wear the tunic, what on earth would I do with the armour?! Polish it, of course! 😉 Maybe the world-famous Crucible Theatre will auction Tom Bateman's costumes from its curtailed production of Coriolanus? They've hardly been worn! I'd never heard of him, but I believe he is *quite* famous. One of the other cast members, Alex Young, became pregnant just from being near him!
