The liberty of it, I say. I'm fanning myself down now. In a way, many fans like it exactly that way. Although I'm all open to new interpretations. 😀 I like Blood Brothers but the Kenwright production and its cheap sets and costumes need to be retired and given to someone else to breathe new life into it. When it closed in the West End, I wasn't exactly sad to see it go.

A farewell-tour is not a farewell-tour if you keep casting the same actor in each subsequent leg, or keep bringing them back in future productions of the same show.
I do not see the appeal or point at all of Six.
The 2017 National Theatre-production of Jane Eyre was odd and fairly boring.

Book of Mormon is amazeballs x
Hamilton is double swinging amazeballs x
Come From Away is triple swinging amazeballs x
The Great Comet is so amazeballs it's like one of those pits full of coloured balls that kids play in x
Six has more amazeballs than anyone else, but it is not a musical. It is a fantastic cabaret act that didn't have a home anywhere else so they called it a musical and shoved it Off West End. The fact that this show is created by 2 BRITISH Uni students and has opened on Broadway a little over 2 years after it's inception is an unparalledled and extraordinary feat. The fact that so many people are willing to sh*t all over it instead of celebrating it's immense achievements angers me. If they were a football team of men you'd be giving them parades in the streets, but instead...crickets...and endless bitching and moaning about how sh*t it is instead of praising the doors it has and will open for modern British musicals x
The first half of Kinky Boots is amazeballs, the 2nd half is just balls x
Fun Home, Caroline or Change and Falsettos are unwatchable manipulative muck x
Sondheim is so overrated they actually invented the word just to describe his work x
Bette Midler was atrocious in Hello Dolly x
The recent JCS revival was like watching an ALW themed episode of American Idol. The singing was phenomenal but it was cold, heartless and had no soul x
Apart from Sunset ALW is incapable of writing a decent show on his own. His 2 best shows post 70's were his 2 biggest flops...The Beautiful Game and Whistle Down the Wind x

......errr.....nope.....lol Do I sense a ‘Benidorm’ & ‘Mrs Browns Boys’ lover? There’s nothing wrong with obvious, lowest common denominator comedy if that’s what you like. BOM is far from perfect and morally difficult to defend, but works on many levels than just gross out ‘South Park’ comedy. But each to their own. 😂😂😂 (Thoroughly enjoyed ‘Six’ but I think cast changes are all that would make me return regularly.)

Six does not appeal to me and if it is the future of british musicals I certainly don’t want those doors opened.

^danb,the thread is called ‘Let’s get real.Truth hurts!’.... my truth and my reality is that BOM is unacceptable in its dealings with race and in the current climate I personally can’t see how it can be staged again.Cue outrage from other board members! BOM have tweeted their support for BLM and a politically-active associate of mine has challenged them to justify this statement in relation to the show itself.Will report back if he gets a response. Obviously,danb,I totally respect that your truth and reality is different to mine regarding this show. No worries👍

Out of the 122 events I have listed as seen in my lifetime so far, the 2018-production of Flashdance was the worst of all.
Those 122 events include a Bristol City v Oldham Athletic-match. Just for comparison.

If it was so problematic why would so many of the black community have agreed to take part in the show? Think about the number of black actors who have worked on it over the years. Half the cast are black. I think it's difficult for the black lives matter movement to come out against a show many of their own community were more than happy to be a part of and advertise. The audience, in my experience, has also been very diverse the times I've been to see it. But if anyone wants to now discuss the individual topic of which shows are problematic because of BLM further can i ask that another thread is made or it's taken to the relevant thread in GD, rather than hijacking this thread with replies that are off topic.

Please dont hate me but I really like Jenna Russell Me too! I first saw her in Merrily, then Grey Gardens, Fun Home, and Bridges of Madison County and each time I've been really impressed. I don't really get the dislike for her, but there you go, we can't all like the same thing.
For my two-penneth worth in this thread...I hate anything Shakespeare, and trying to make it all modern by setting in on a cruise ship in the 1980s, but getting the characters to speak in olde fashiondy English just turns me cold. I've tried and tried, but I cannot engage (or understand, or care about it) at all.

Thought someone would've mentioned it already, but I've never heard Alfie Boe *not* sing like he's got something in his mouth, which particularly shows when the tempo is fast and there are a lot of lyrics to get through (e.g. Valjean's Soliloquy).
Ironically, considering his disregard for the opera world, I find his vocals much more agreeable listening to his takes on slower-paced, grandiose operatic arias.

I really like Waitress but some of the songs are not that easy on the ear, especially in the show itself because some of the most awkward songs are also some of the songs with the most energetic choreography. I'm talking about When he see's me and both of Ogi's songs. Melodically I really don't think they sit well and to make matters worse, the actors are all over the shop dancing about in all those songs and it honestly can be a bit painful, even if the actors can actually sing, which as we know with Waitress, isn't always a given. I do like Sara's music and there are some beautiful songs in Waitress but some of that score feels really awkward to my ears.

Am I late to the party?
Petula Clark's With One Look was fab. It showed Norma's vulnerability, like there really was a human behind her facade.
Hamilton. Godawful. It felt like the concert version of itself.
Funny Girl. The story is boring, and I doubt any actress could make Fanny Brice come across as interesting.
Cats the movie. Sort of loved it, to be honest. It's just a fun two hours with music and dance.
Victor/Victoria. I want to see a male play the lead. A man playing a woman playing a man playing a woman! It would have more layers than puff pastry. Oh, this is more of an idea than anything else. Someone, please take it and make something out of it!
