Hi. I’m not on any social media (apart from this if this is social media?) and everyone I know either supports him or doesn’t care so I just needed somewhere to try articulate my utter disbelief that in the worst health and economic disaster we have seen Boris is on his second 10 day holiday since March!!!!!!
I know we have all heard the stories that he’s this and that but this really is beyond the pale in my opinion. I’m flabbergasted.
And what with his 3 weeks sick and ANOTHER holiday in January?? Why are we putting up with this?br] Or am I just being a bit hysterical?

Although obviously I realise the 3 weeks he had off sick couldn’t be helped

He's not on holiday though. It's just the standard scheduled House of Commons Whitsun recess which lasts two weeks, the government is still operating.

When I walk around the parks near where I live there are hundreds of people there and it is impossible to tell by looking at them that all barbers and hairdressers have been closed for 8 weeks - there has obviously been some top DIY work going on, so much so that I don't see any need for them to reopen.

BTW, The Guardian complaining that Boris is on holiday reminds me of that old joke Woody Allen told in one of his films, an old New York Jewish couple talking about a restaurant and one says "It has terrible food, terrible, and such small portions".

Before it closes.
If you are ill with Covid-19 the best action to take is to drive your contagious arse 200 miles and isolate at your parents house whilst they look after your potentially infected kids.
Amazing what you miss when you don’t read the small print. the contempt this Government has for the electorate appears to have no limits.

And it speaks volumes, doesn't it, about how much respect Mr. Cummings has for his parents, and how much concern he feels for their well-being?

When David Cameron calls someone a sociopath you know you have something to worry about...oh wait no you don't, vote him right into power.

Thread closing in 5-4-3-2-1.... Think I might have been the cause/one of the causes for the last one closing. What did I miss? Don't want to keep being the thread shutter. Is it no politico talk now?

Thread closing in 5-4-3-2-1.... Think I might have been the cause/one of the causes for the last one closing. What did I miss? Don't want to keep being the thread shutter. Is it no politico talk now?Not at all, but we do need to try and keep a semblance of organisation to the threads. The covid19 discussion is spreading across several threads (theatre cancellations, stay alert, recreation and leisure not to mention the couple that have been closed) which means the OP’s intention behind creating the thread is lost. It also means we are moderating several threads where the same or similar discussion are happening. And members who may not want to read about certain topics are misled by thread titles which then turn into covid discussions. This thread is about Boris Johnson, not Covid19. I know there’s inevitable crossover to some of this but if we could try to stay on topic it does help. I’ve created a thread for general discussion of the virus here theatreboard.co.uk/thread/8004/coronavirus-general-discussion

For what it's worth, I thought the Stay Alert thread was one of the best discussions I had read. Some really good and insightful posts

I’ve moved the last few pages of that thread to the general discussion thread so you can continue.

Seeing all this discussion on Cummings flouting of lockdown, I am apoplectic. It's one rule for them, another for us. How can they expect us to follow their guidelines if they won't follow them?

And it's particularly infuriating - although not remotely surprising - to see several Conservative front-benchers, including the Health Secretary and the Attorney General, tweet support for Cummings, all of them apparently following a prepared script from party HQ. ("Here are the points you have to hit, please put them in your own words.") When the HEALTH SECRETARY tweets a defence of a flagrant breach of the rules HE INTRODUCED, it's going to be very difficult to expect the wider public to continue to take the lockdown seriously. And that, unfortunately, will cost lives.

And that, unfortunately, will cost lives. Indeed. We continue to go so far into the realms of satire I'm convinced even Chris Morris would have baulked at including some of the things this government has done in Brass Eye for fear of it being too unrealistic. It does feel like breaking point though, If Cummings stays then effectively lockdown is over. Can't say stay alert or stay home when one of their own didn't. When people are kept from saying goodbye to loved ones, when people haven't been able to hug friends or family in months, this feel like the biggest betrayal of this government, and that is saying something.

According to the BBC "The prime minister gives Mr Cummings his full support". Doesn't that usually mean "I'll hold the sword; it's up to you to fall on it"?
Unfortunately, Cummings's attitude is a common way of thinking everywhere. "Rules are rules, but what I have to do is important so the rules shouldn't apply".

Cummings knows too much he is the architect. Definitely going nowhere. Mind, Putin won't be very pleased he got caught dancing to ABBA in the front garden.

Cannot believe it today’s briefing finished with the request ‘Not to Travel’
Turns out his wife’s sister lives in London, wouldn’t the simplest solution to have gone to her’s or in reality she to theirs and there were plenty of people to bring supplies as half the cabinet have been in London and attending the briefings over the last few weeks.
There was only one real requirement, do not leave your house if you have or believe you have the coronavirus.
Apoplectic today, if I wrote what I really want to this thread would be closed in an instant, my thoughts are with the thousands who lost loved ones who died and were buried alone as they dutifully kept to the rules.
