Still no word on Twitter. People not happy. They surely know by now whether she is fit to appear. That's what some are saying and that they want to know whether to travel in or not (they can obviously afford to waste their money).

They probably know they going to get hate mail either way, last night's audience complaining more if she's well enough for tonight. Tonight's audience going mental if she not on again. Not that they care they parroting the same thing to everyone..
The producer (who will only appear with safety of the pit between him and you) will not offer refunds or exchanges.
It's a bit perplexing really. If it's not a problem that she's off, like they tell you. Why bother letting you know on twitter, posters in venue.

They've handled the whole thing terribly. Any idea what the illness is?

That is absolute crap that they won't offer refunds.
When I went to see Witches of Eastwick, Maria Friedman was off and because she was over the title, the lovely box office people the Drury Lane switched my tickets. The same was true for Michael Xavier in Love Story and Ramin Karimloo in Love Never dies. I feel that the box office people in the West End are AMAZING and they often get a bad rep but they are so much nicer than on Broadway,

Oh dear... that theatre is going to get so many complaints. And I am not at all surprised.
I wouldn't personally complain, or even ask for my money back, because I have respect. But I still would be pretty pissed.

It's so difficult. Whenever they announce it someone will say it was wrong. If they announced it at noon, people would say it was too early. Announcing it now will have others saying it's too late. Such a hard position for the Theatre. Depending on what the illness is, this might have been avoidable.

I suspect Close's team are waiting (at this point daily?) to see if she CAN do it and then are deciding at a certain point that she simply can't --- if Glenn misses much of the rest of the run, there goes her shot at doing the film, alas, which in all honesty would in any case be more merciless about the fact that she is two decades too old for the role - something that matters a lot less, of course, on stage. I do feel for ENO since it certainly isn't THEIR fault, and they aren't even producing the damn thing (the whole venture has been outsourced), so they are made to be the fall guy for a pissed-off public.
Maybe frustrated playgoers should go across the road and see Kit Harington naked in FAUSTUS ?

"CAST CHANGE (22 April): Due to the indisposition of Glenn Close, the role of Norma Desmond will be played by Ria Jones in tonight’s performance of Sunset Boulevard." - ENO Website

I'd like to see Cate Blanchett do it. Not sure if she can sing at all though.

She was really struggling at Wednesday's matinee. Would people rather see her sing it terribly and possibly do herself real damage than not see her?! Honestly

Blimey, let's just add to her to the 2016 celebrity deathlist now and be done with it!!!!

They made the run too long... they should of given it a strictly two/three week run and then she could of seen it through. I know you can't predict illness etc but it is a tough role, especially for someone her age. Either that or they should of given alternate Matinee's or something.
