But if workers have been managing at home why on Earth would they risk going back? A company can't demand it if all employees won't comply. Again, it's about getting the economy going again. Spending on public transport, coffees, work drinks, work lunches, impulse buys.

You've got to love the 1922 Committee, telling everyone else what to do in the certain knowledge that because hardly anyone knows who they are they can spout whatever crap they like without ever being held accountable for it.

Best line I heard about starting to wear masks now compared to March is it's like wearing a Condom at a Baby Shower.

Best line I heard about starting to wear masks now compared to March is it's like wearing a Condom at a Baby Shower. The difference is that the vulnerable need to get out having been locked down since March. We need the reassurance of masks and other measures to give us the confidence that it is reasonably safe.

A dinner theatre in the US has reopened with their performers wearing face shields, apparently they dropped their Equity status to be able to do so

Bizarely Labour seem to against calling for the government to mandate them in offices and other workplaces.

Believe the rationale is about the controls in place.
If 2m can be maintained, one way systems, back to back desks, no meetings.... then face masks need not be worn In the work place as the risk is being mitigated by other means. If you work in a place where no mitigations have been introduced and are in close proximity then masks could prove useful.
The reasoning for shops is that 2m is difficult to maintain and you are mixing with potentially a lot of strangers increasing the risk of infection.

They either don’t understand about aerosols (shocking, after it was first highlighted months ago) or they do and they don’t care. Either dangerously ignorant or just plain dangerous. They expect people at risk and even very high risk to work in such environments? There are no nice words for that. Labour appear to be just as ill informed/reckless as well.

A dinner theatre in the US has reopened with their performers wearing face shields, apparently they dropped their Equity status to be able to do so I feel rather sorry for the theatre, reading that if they didn't reopen over 100 waiting staff would not be eligible for unemployment benefits under local laws. In better news, I see the theatre is producing Phantom later this year, so at least some of the characters have a reason to wear masks (looking at the advertising style, I do wonder how many people will turn up expecting an ALW musical with a similar name).

Now that VAT on theatre tickets has been reduced to 5% until 12 January 2021, it will be interesting to see if the commercial sector* passes on the saving to bookers by lowering prices. As the measure is designed to stimulate the wider hospitality sector, it is, I would gave thought, in its interests to not just do so, but also shout about it as loudly as possible.
(*As I understand it, the charity sector can elect not to charge VAT, under the 'cultural event' rule.)

If anything, it means more money going back to the theatre or producers so they can recoup.

Not sure how many other theatres are doing this but the Union Theatre and Southwark Playhouse have reopened their bars
Southwark Playhouse: bookable tables, outside, and in the existing bar area, and in what is usually The Little.

A big reveal from the ONS this morning:
This is why they chucked £1.4 billion at the arts. Given revenues from various tax mechanisms, it's too expensive not to.

Hmm, the thing I hate most about panto is the audience participation element of it - this could be quite an improvement!
